Well, another week rolls around and I must apologise for the lack of updates. There’s been a lot going on – some good, some bad. Just over a week ago we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous furbaby. Objectively, you kind of know it’s coming, she was 16 and was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, but I don’t there’s ever really any way to prepare for it. We’d had her from a kitten, so a long time, and must admit am feeling a little lost. Keep expecting to turn round and she’ll be walking in, or running to greet me at the door, or hopping on the bed in the middle of the night to wake me up. The quiet is unnerving and not something I think I will ever get used to. Still, if we dwell on that too much I’ll end up not being able to finish this post, so here we go.
I did say there was some good. Got to head back down to England for a good friend’s wedding and was lovely to see family and friends again, even if I probably wasn’t the most sociable. Also really appreciate since I’ve got back, friends who are keeping an eye on me, and even *shock horror* getting me out of the house. Saw a festival show on Tuesday with the fabulous Axis of Awesome, and had a fun day of Firefly-binging complete with Mudder’s Milk cocktails yesterday.
Writing-wise, it’s been going a little slowly. I’ve admitted defeat on the submission call, the deadline is tonight and it’s not going to be finished. I was attempting to get it done, but was feeling a bit rushed and forced which is not what I wanted. I am enjoying the story, so it will get finished – just in my own time and then can decide what to do with it 🙂 Going to get back to the edits this week, so hopefully will be able to announce some dates for things soon.
The start of another week and can you believe we’re into August now? This year just seems to be speeding by! I’ve had a good weekend, some friends up visiting so was lovely to catch up and ‘show them round’ 🙂 Another week and the festival will be in full flow – and the centre will be jam-packed with tourists and performers.
It does mean that I’ve not got much writing stuff though. I put in for a publishers ‘proposal call’ last week, which is rather nerve-wracking and a long wait to hear back now. I’m also working on my novella, which needs to be finished, edited and tidied up by the 15th – so I definitely need to get my butt in gear!
Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the next book in my wolves series. I’m hoping to set a release date very soon, though it’s going to be September now I think.
Hope you all have a good start to the week. Take care x
Well, Monday rolls round again – though I must admit it’s rather nice to just have one day job to go to 🙂 It’s been a busy week with lots of extra freelance jobs on (not to mention a new release out!), but think they’re all getting tidied up now so can get back to my edits!
July is looking like a very busy month writing-wise. I’m taking a wee break from my wolves series to write a story for a submission call and am having a lot of fun with it. It’s much lighter, which is quite a nice change after finishing up book 2 in my wolves, which was rather intense towards the end. So, I have that to finish, final edits on my next wolves book and finally started edits on a paranormal suspense story that has been knocking around for a while. I’m joining in the 100k challenge again which will hopefully help with a bit of motivation.
I’ve also got the RNA Conference this weekend – it’s snuck up fast! Not sure if I’m more nervous or excited right now, but everyone I’ve spoken to so far seems very nice and am sure it will be a great learning experience. If you’re heading along as well then do feel free to say hi 🙂
Well, Monday rolls around again and let’s hope it’s a better week. I would like to say I’m feeling better about the result on Friday, but as I watch our country descend into chaos it’s rather hard to find a positive side. Our economy is plunging, international companies are already starting the process of pulling out of the UK, here in Scotland we’re looking at a second independence referendum, Ireland is being fed talks of a ‘United Ireland’ again amid serious worries about the jeopardisation of the Good Friday Agreement, and we have no leadership willing or capable to start the complicated and lengthy new negotiations that will now be needed. So many Leave voters seem to be regreting their choice as the reality is now starting to become clear to them and the lies they were fed are already being backtracked on.
As someone living in a very diverse and international city the inward-facing view of a lot of the country is a sad thing. I work for an internationally trading company so am worried for my job. I sell books internationally so now need to check the changes to those conditions. Myself, my generation and all the ones to follow have lost the right to live, work and study in Europe. I have so many friends here who have come from Europe for those very reasons – their position is now in jeopardy and there will be no others able to follow them. The boost they brought to out local economy will be lost, the money they provided to our local universities will be lost. The very diversity that makes up our country is being stamped out on a wave of racism and fearmongering.
I’m now holding my hopes on either Scotland being able to negotiate to stay in the EU separately from the rest of the UK (Denmark has a similar set-up so it’s not without precedent) or Indy2 actually going through. It is not a huge hope but tbh it’s more than the rest of the country has.
Anyway, apologies for the mini-rant – though I know quite a few international friends have been asking me about it, so there you go :p Writing-wise, it’s not been a very productive weekend I must admit. Edits are still coming along though for my wolves book 2 and I’m preparing for the re-release of Love Reawakened so things have still been happening. It’s also the last week of my old job (perhaps under the circumstances I should be keeping it lol!) but at least that will give me some more free time and hopefully a bit less stress.
Well, Monday rolls round again. Has been a bit of a frazzling week – think I have a broken toe so have been hobbling round all week. Managed to rest it up over the weekend so fingers crossed it might be a bit better today. Also only have two weeks left doing the two jobs – which will be a relief and free me a lot more time up for the writing side.
Speaking of which, it’s been all go! I’ve started final edits for book 2 in my wolves series, which even has a tentative title of Scarlett Seduction. (As you may know titles are hard for me, I tend to agonise over them constantly). The feedback so far from my wonderful beta readers has been very positive 🙂 I’m also working on re-releasing Love Reawakened, my zombie story, which I think is going to have a new release date of the 30th June. I’ve got a shiny new cover for it as well, which I should be sharing later in the week – really hope you’ll like it!
I’m thinking next week’s blog posts might need to have something special in the lead-up – maybe a zombie themed week? Who doesn’t like a bit of spookiness in June, right? 😉 More details to follow!
Hope you all have a great start to the week. Take care x
Am feeling a little sober this week, the events in Orlando are just heart-breaking – an attack not just on the US but on the LGBT community in particular. It’s so so sad that in this day and age, with all the advances we’ve made, that some people still feel so threatened by the fact that someone is different to them. How can we call ourselves a progressive society when people are still discriminated against, persecuted and even killed because of their sexuality, or race, or religion or anything else for that matter. The only good thing I see is the show of solidarity from around the world – the image of the Eiffel Tower, lit up in rainbow colours, was especially moving.
It seems a little odd to chat about my week in light of that, but it has been a busy one. All booked and confirmed for the RNA Conference now, and have even had the chance to chat to some other first-timers which has made me a little less nervous. I also have an industry appointment booked so need to get my first chapter and synopsis sent off for that asap! I wasn’t actually planning on sending this book out until later in the year (after the second in my wolves series had been released) so am feeling a little rushed – but it’s a good opportunity so worth trying I think. Tbh the person I’m seeing is slightly off-genre for me, but I’m still thinking it was a valuable chance to get to chat to someone in the industry and maybe get some good feedback.
I’m also starting final edits on my wolves book this week – hoping to finalise a release date for next month – as well as reformat my zombie romance for re-release, as it reverted back to me when my old publisher closed down. So much to do, so little time!
Anyway, hope you have a good start to the week. Take care x
Well, Monday rolls back around. Hope you’ve all had a good weekend. Mine has been great, had my parents visiting, which was lovely, and they even brought some gorgeous sunshine with them 🙂
Sadly back to reality (and the day job) today, but have been getting lots of things booked in this weekend so at least have some things to look forward to! Booked for the Romance Novellist’s Association (RNA) Conference in July. Will be the first conference I’ve been to and the line-up looks really interesting – some good panels and talks plus am putting in to possibly get some meet-ups with industry people. To be fair I’m not expecting too much to come out of that, but the experience and practice should be good. So, exciting but a little bit scary!
If I do get appointments booked though then will need to get my submission polished up quick and write a dreaded synopsis for it lol. Lots to get done this month 🙂
Anyway, hope your week gets off to a good start. Take care x
Apologies for running behind today. Hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter weekend, whatever you might have been up to 🙂 Mine has been a busy one. Had a friend’s wedding on Saturday, which was a lovely day. I was also doing the photos for it and although the Scottish weather decided it wasn’t going to co-operate, then hopefully we still have some good indoor piccies! It’s a shame when we’ve had some lovely Spring weather this week (this is a piccie at Botanic gardens with the daffodils coming out), but sadly just the way it goes sometimes. So the rest of my bank holiday has been photo editing, and that will probably form the rest of my week now as well lol.
Sadly, all the photo work does take time away from the writing so not much new done this week. Getting things lined up for April though – it’s looking like another busy month! Hmm, now I think about it, I wonder when the last time I had a quiet month was 😉 Ah well, I probably wouldn’t know what to do with myself anyway.
Well, Monday rolls round again, hope you’re all having a good start to the week. The last one has been quite busy here – as some of you know had to take kitty in to the vets on Thursday for her little vampire tooth that was sticking out. They decided to keep her in there and then to take it out – so had a rather stressful few hours of worrying plus a lot of running back and forth. Thankfully all was fine, and once she’d got over her wobbling all over the house like a wee drunkard she’s looking much better and scoffing her food down 🙂 Our furbabies do keep us on our toes, right? On a related note, thank God for PDSA. If you don’t know, they are a wonderful charity who run vet clinics for people on low-incomes to provide their animals with vet care. With all the health problems kitty has had over the past year, if she’d still been at a regular vet I would be bankrupt by now! If anyone feels the need to donate somewhere, they are a very worthy cause.
Writing-wise, have finally finished my wolves book 2! 🙂 It’s both a wonderful feeling to have finished and at the same time a little sad having to say goodbye to your characters. Still, I have a feeling they will be popping up in some other people’s stories so not a total goodbye really. So, have been having a few days break, catching up on some tv shows etc (anyone else watching Gotham – how good is it right now??). I’m also starting a new story for a submission call. I know, I know, I have so many half-finished ones already, but this was just too tempting. It’s been lots of fun to write so far, which is nice to have something light with a bit of comedy after having a bit of an intense ending on the last book. So far, we have a witch allergic to magic, a vegan vampire under a curse and a werewolf veggie cooking group 🙂
Well, Monday rolls around again! Hope you’ve all had a fab weekend. Go me, I’ve actually made it on a night out for the first time in weeks (cold seems to finally be going, yay!). Had a lovely night, went to the Meadows (a big local park) to watch someone I know doing some fire dancing. Was very impressive and a lovely mild night for it – almost feels like Spring is coming lol. Then we ended up at the pub and well, the cocktails menus were out 😉
Other then that though, it’s been a productive weekend work-wise. Getting back into the daily writing habit again so work has been coming along nicely. The current WIP should be finished this week I think – and then a wee break from it before the editing starts 🙂
