Monday Catch Up

Published August 15, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, another week rolls around and I must apologise for the lack of updates. There’s been a lot going on – some good, some bad. Just over a week ago we had to say goodbye to our gorgeous furbaby. Objectively, you kind of know it’s coming, she was 16 and was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, but I don’t there’s ever really any way to prepare for it. We’d had her from a kitten, so a long time, and must admit am feeling a little lost. Keep expecting to turn round and she’ll be walking in, or running to greet me at the door, or hopping on the bed in the middle of the night to wake me up. The quiet is unnerving and not something I think I will ever get used to. Still, if we dwell on that too much I’ll end up not being able to finish this post, so here we go.

SerenityshipI did say there was some good. Got to head back down to England for a good friend’s wedding and was lovely to see family and friends again, even if I probably wasn’t the most sociable. Also really appreciate since I’ve got back, friends who are keeping an eye on me, and even *shock horror* getting me out of the house. Saw a festival show on Tuesday with the fabulous Axis of Awesome, and had a fun day of Firefly-binging complete with Mudder’s Milk cocktails yesterday.

tumblr_n0qucd56B61sjoq1co1_500Writing-wise, it’s been going a little slowly. I’ve admitted defeat on the submission call, the deadline is tonight and it’s not going to be finished. I was attempting to get it done, but was feeling a bit rushed and forced which is not what I wanted. I am enjoying the story, so it will get finished – just in my own time and then can decide what to do with it πŸ™‚ Going to get back to the edits this week, so hopefully will be able to announce some dates for things soon.

Hope you have a good week. Take care x

Wednesday WIP

Published July 27, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, we’re at another Hump Day – this month seems to be just flying by! Hope you’re all having a good week. I’m definitely keeping busy, but wanted to share with you an excerpt from my current WIP. Hope you like it πŸ™‚

witch-fantasy_00408573Venn stared at the little cottage with some trepidation. It was just so… cutesy. Warm red brick with a neat little garden, shadowed in the growing darkness, leaden-paned windows and a sloping roof. He wouldn’t be surprised to see deer and little bunnies frolicking through the grass. Urgh. This did not look like the home of a powerful witch. Maybe it was a kind of camouflage? Let’s face it he didn’t have a great deal of options. Everyone else had turned him away. If this witch couldn’t help he was pretty much screwed.

He glided through the night to the painted front door. There was a neat, hand-printed sign.

For enquiries, come to back door.

Great. Like a servant, or a delivery person. Gritting his teeth he made his way round to the back and knocked sharply on the door. It flung open, spilling out warm light and framing the form of a small woman. He blinked at her a moment. Short, curvy, brown, slightly frizzy hair pulled back in a messy up-do and thick glasses that gave her the look of a blinking owl. This – this was his last hope?

“Can I help you?”

Her voice was surprisingly rich and smooth. Fine, he was here now, though he wasn’t feeling optimistic.

“I hope so. You are the witch in residence here?”

Maybe she was an assistant or something? There could be someone inside who reeked of power. Her eyes narrowed as though she sensed his thoughts.

“The one and only. I am Elizabeth Garrett Morrigan. And I need a good reason to want to help a vampire.”

He sighed. At least she had enough power to know what he was, that was surely a start.

“My name is Venn Draconius. I was told that you can be sympathetic to those who others shun. I am badly in need of help. I am under a curse.”

Her brow furrowed. “What kind of curse?”

“Could we perhaps discuss inside?”

A male voice came from inside the house. “Libby, don’t you dare invite a vampire in here.”

cottageVenn raised an eyebrow. “I assure you no harm will come to anyone in this house on my account.” His lips twisted cynically. “I give you my word on that. Even if I had the inclination, the execution is no longer possible for me.”

The woman stared at him for a long moment, almost as if she was taking his measure. He was surprised to notice that her eyes behind those huge lenses were actually quite beautiful, a deep forest green with tiny flecks of gold around the iris. Odd, he hadn’t noticed a woman’s eyes in probably a century.

She suddenly stepped back, gesturing him in. “I invite you into my home.”

He gave her a brief bow, before stepping past her into a warm and homely kitchen. Curious, he glanced around for the source of the male voice. Perhaps she felt safe because she wasn’t alone.

“I honestly cannot believe you, Libby.” The voice sounded again, close, like it was in the room, but Venn couldn’t see any sign of anyone. “If we’re all killed in our sleep I swear I will never let you live it down.”

Libby gave a brief smile and gestured to an odd shape on the wall. “This is Huwie. Don’t mind him.”

“Don’t mind me? Don’t mind me! That’s gratitude for you.”

“Is that a starfish?”

Venn stared in bewilderment as one of the tiny creature’s arms flapped around, obviously in time with his distress.

She sniffed. “That is Huwie, he is my friend and my familiar and if you expect me to even consider helping you then you’ll be nice to him.”

Be nice to a talking starfish? Obviously this witch was crazier than he’d thought, but he needed to keep her on side.

“Erm, nice to meet you?”

Was he supposed to shake hands as well, and which of those arm/limb things were classed as hands? He felt the strangest urge to laugh. Again something that hadn’t ocurred to him in more years then he cared to remember.

“Take a seat,” the little witch gestured him to one of the wooden chairs at the table, “and tell me about this curse.”

Hi all,

2016-05-11-1462971004-479389-writerHow’s your week going? Mine is hectic already – hence me being a day late with this post! I’ve decided to put a submission in for the Carina Press proposals call-out, so have been panic polishing and rewriting some chapters for that to get in by tomorrow. I’m hoping to get on track by weekend as I have friends visiting and am looking forward to seeing them. Then next weekend, flying visit back to England for a wedding. Lots of fun, but also slightly adding to the deadline panic πŸ˜‰

Wolves_wolf_great_wallpapers_for_your_deskopA big thank you to all who shared my free read at weekend – some great numbers so hope you grabbed your copy, and if you did that you actually like it now! I’m also working on my shiny new newsletter. It’s going to have lots of fun updates, free short reads, special offers, bonus content and basically anything else I can think of to throw in there! Wednesday WIP

Published July 20, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, we’re hitting Hump Day so at least we’re making it through the week πŸ™‚ To hopefully help you out I’m sharing an excerpt from my current WIP. This is from the novella I’m working on and is a bit lighter so far than my current series. This is a WIP so isn’t edited yet – hence, please forgive me any mistakes πŸ˜‰ Really hope you enjoy!

tumblr_n0qucd56B61sjoq1co1_500“A-tishoo!” Libby groaned as the fine yellow powder scattered like the wind. “Damn it!”

“Bless you.”

“Thank you, Huwie.”

Libby quickly cleared up the brightly-coloured dust and then held her breath as she measured out a new portion. She would get this potion finished if it killed her. Some days it felt like it might do.

“So, who are you playing the bleeding heart for this time?”

The voice came from behind her. Libby made sure she sealed the top of the container before turning to scowl at the speaker.

“That’s not nice, Huwie. Mrs Flaherty is really having problems and you know I couldn’t just sit by and watch her suffer.”

witch-fantasy_00408573Huwie swivelled one salt-crusted arm round so his tiny face could peer at her.

“She is not suffering. She laid a guilt-trip on you and you gave in, just like you always do.”

Libby sighed. He was probably right. She was well aware she had issues with saying no to people and sometimes they didn’t realise just what it cost her. Magic was in her blood, the women in her family had been witches for more generations than most people could trace back. It was just unfortunate that she seemed to have problems none of them did.

She removed her thick glasses a moment and rubbed at her watering eyes as she blinked at the potion recipe. She could cope with being allergic to fur, dust, pollen, gluten, various fruits, nuts, to be honest more things that she could generally list – but did she have to be allergic to magic? The one thing that made her vaguely special, that set her apart as something other than a nerdy woman with jamjar glasses, frizz-prone hair and her most significant relationship being with a starfish. Yup, a starfish.

Sexy Saturday Sale!

Published July 16, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your weekend is going well. I’m trying to catch up with some writing, but in the meantime, I have a sale on this week! Love Reawakened is just 0.99 – check out the excerpt below.

witch 2A warm glow curled in her chest at his words. She didn’t remember him ever really thanking her for anything before. “You’re welcome. Thank you for being willing to help me out of this mess.”

He grinned at her. “Hey, it’s my pleasure. It’s not all been horrendous.”

She managed a weak smile back, but all she could see in her mind was the stunning voodoo priestess with her tongue down his throat. Yeah, he was just having a ball, wasn’t he?

“What’s wrong, Emma?” he asked.

“Nothing,” she muttered. “I better go to bed.”

He reached out and took her arm. “It’s not nothing. What’s upset you?”

She scowled at him. “I am not upset. I am just apparently not having as much fun today as you are.”

He was frowning now as well. “What is that supposed to mean? You dragged me in on this. I’ve just been trying to help.”

“Yeah, and it’s been just awful for you hasn’t it, having to put up with gorgeous women jumping you!”

“Well, I don’t know if you quite jumped me, but I suppose since I was almost incapacitated at the time…”

Emma’s face flamed and anger surged through her. “You know damn well I wasn’t talking about me. That woman was all over you, and I didn’t see you exactly complaining about it!”

His eyes widened. “This is about Carisa? That’s what you’re upset about?” He started laughing, and Emma lost the last vestige of her control. Wrenching her arm free, she slammed her fist into his uninjured arm, causing a surprised grunt, and turned on her heel.

“You are a jackass, and I’m going to bed!”

Love Reawakened 3She managed to take two steps before he grasped her again, whirling her around. His lips came down on hers, fierce and demanding, and to her disgust, it took less than ten seconds before she’d stopped struggling and opened her mouth for him. Christ, what was wrong with her? She was furious right now, but all he had to do was touch her and she went up in flames. His tongue plunged deep, possessively, and his arm around her waist crushed her closer. Giving up, she kissed him back just as fiercely, her hand sliding in his hair and her nails digging into his back through his t-shirt. When he pulled back a few inches, they were both breathing heavily.

If you’re not convinced yet, it also has zombies, magic, a witch, a rather ‘ahem’ yummy necromancer and a zombie cat – prizes if you can guess its name! Just what the doctor ordereed for the weekend, and now at a bargain price πŸ˜‰

Wednesday Teaser

Published July 6, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

We’re halfway through the week – so Happy Hump Day πŸ™‚ Hope you’re getting through, but in case you need a wee pick-me-up, I’m sharing an excerpt. This week’s is from my new release, Love Reawakened. Hope you enjoy x

nightShocked gasps came from behind her, but the vibrations were already running through the ground. Quickly, she smeared the blood around the edges of the circle. The energy was rising now, waves spreading out as the hairs on her arms stood up, and tiny tremors ran through the soles of her shoes. She drew a final symbol in the blood on the gravestone itself, the rough stone grazing her fingers and making the lines awkward.

“Patrick Connell, rise. Come from your grave at my command. Rise from your sleep at my bidding.”

The earth in front of her practically bubbled now, and then it parted, and a tall figure emerged. Neil almost shrieked behind her, but her attention stayed focused on the corpse in front of her. He was newly dead and perfectly preserved. In fact, gazing at him, you would barely know the difference if you saw him walking down the street. She was quite proud. She didn’t do this spell much, but this was a damn good raising!

“Patrick Connell, you have been raised at my command. You will do as I say and nothing more, bound to me by blood and magic. Do you understand and obey?”

The corpse looked at her, surprising clarity in his deep blue eyes. She didn’t think she’d ever raised one this ‘new’ before, and it was actually a little disconcerting how alive he appeared. He’d obviously been a handsome man, tall with broad shoulders, thick dark hair, strong jaw, and quite startling eyes. Then he opened his mouth and said a single word.

“No.”

Release Day – Love Reawakened

Published June 30, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Squee, it’s release day for Love Reawakened so I’m definitely excited. If you’re looking for witches, zombies, magic, a rather hawt necromancer and, of course, a healthy dose of romance thrown in, then look no further πŸ™‚

Love Reawakened 3Blurb

For Emma Strachan, raising zombies is all in a day’s work. A girl has to pay the bills somehow! But when what should be a simple raising goes horribly wrong, Emma is forced to ask for help from the one man she swore never to see again.

Garret is used to being a loner, as a necromancer he works best that way and frankly, with the dangers he faces every day, it’s easier not to have to look out for anyone else. When Emma shows up on his doorstep desperate for help, he vows to ignore the raging attraction between them – after all a pretty, fun-loving witch has no place in his world.

Now Emma and Garret will need to put aside old resentments in order to try and defeat a zombie unlike anything they have seen before. Trust might not come easy, but it may be their only chance to survive.

You can get your copy on Amazon here – and please do share, I’d really appreciate it.

Wednesday WIP

Published June 29, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your week’s been going well. Mine’s been a busy one and looks like that’s going to continue. Last day at my old job today (yay!) but still fully booked up for the rest of the week – not to mention I have a release out! Speaking of… today’s excerpt is from Love Reawakened, which yup, is re-releasing tomorrow. I’m very excited, so hope you enjoy πŸ™‚

350px-Creatures-Voodoo_priestessGarret dropped her hand to knock on the front door, and when it swung effortlessly open, he stepped inside, with a brief glance back. Emma nodded at him and followed him down a short corridor into a spacious, airy living room. The modern theme followed through here. Spotless, it was like something out of an interior design magazine, the sort of house that looked stunning but you wondered how anyone lived there comfortably. Emma glanced around for any sign of the occupant.

Instead, the only sign of life was a black cat padding silently into the room. For some reason, it made her feel a little more comfortable. Of course, crazy people could still have pets, but somehow, if someone liked animals, they didn’t seem quite as bad.

“Here, kitty.” She crouched down, clicking her tongue.

The cat lazily changed direction to head for her. Emma was reaching down to pet it, when it turned its head, and she jumped back with a shriek. One side of the animal was sleek and normal while the other had several large patches where the skin was hanging off. The animal looked up at her curiously with one bright green eye and one faded milky one.

“Shit! What the hell is it?” she asked Garret.

“Zombie cat.” His tone was bland, but he gazed down at the creature with a look of slight disapproval.

A low, feminine voice rang out from the doorway, making them both whirl around. “Now, now, Garret, you know his name is Mittens. You’ll hurt his feelings talking like that.”

My Sexy Saturday & Cover Reveal

Published June 25, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your weekend is going well. I’m joining in the My Sexy Saturday blog hop today and since the theme is celebration I thought I would celebrate my shiny new cover for Love Reawakened by sharing it here first πŸ™‚ It re-releases on the 30th so not long to go now! In the meantime I hope you enjoy the cover and the teaser.

Love Reawakened 3

Emma moaned as he tangled his hand in her hair, pulling her down so her body was crushed against him. She’d intended to give him a light, teasing kiss, but the moment they touched her senses went into overdrive. His tongue slid along the seam of her lips before plunging within, and groaning, she met it with her own. Her nipples hardened against his chest, even through her thin t-shirt, and his hand slid from her hair down her side to the band of warm skin where her jeans met her t-shirt and then underneath to cup her breast. His thumb rubbed back and forth across the sensitive bud, and a whimper rose in her throat.

Christ, it had always been like this between them. A simple touch was never enough, she always craved more. Her skin burned wherever they touched even through her clothes, and she desperately needed to be closer. She swung her leg across so she straddled him, and as she sank down, his erection met her rapidly dampening core and they both groaned. Oh God, that was just what she needed, only without the two pairs of jeans in the way.

She slid her hands between them, sliding them over the warm skin of his chest, tracing his pectoral muscles and the light smattering of hair. Then her fingers reached the thick bandage at the top, making him wince, and her body froze.

“It’s fine,” he murmured against her lips, trying to pull her back down to him.

She shook her head. What the hell is wrong with me? The guy had nearly died, had been awake for about ten minutes, and instead of trying to make him take it easy like the professional had told her to, she was jumping his bones. She pulled back, covering her face with her hands. This was before she even started on what a bad idea it was in the first place. They’d been down this road before, and he’d made it very clear nothing was going to happen. Didn’t she have enough on her plate right now without getting her heart broken again?

“Emma, what’s wrong?”

His voice was soft, and she forced herself to gaze up at him.

“I’m sorry. I really shouldn’t have done that.”

He smiled at her. “Did you hear me complaining? Unless it’s about the whiplash I just got.”

What do you think? Do feel free to share in the comments! And don’t forget to check out the rest of the excerpts here:

Monday Catch Up

Published June 20, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, Monday rolls round again. Has been a bit of a frazzling week – think I have a broken toe so have been hobbling round all week. Managed to rest it up over the weekend so fingers crossed it might be a bit better today. Also only have two weeks left doing the two jobs – which will be a relief and free me a lot more time up for the writing side.

witch 2Speaking of which, it’s been all go! I’ve started final edits for book 2 in my wolves series, which even has a tentative title of Scarlett Seduction. (As you may know titles are hard for me, I tend to agonise over them constantly). The feedback so far from my wonderful beta readers has been very positive πŸ™‚ I’m also working on re-releasing Love Reawakened, my zombie story, which I think is going to have a new release date of the 30th June. I’ve got a shiny new cover for it as well, which I should be sharing later in the week – really hope you’ll like it!

I’m thinking next week’s blog posts might need to have something special in the lead-up – maybe a zombie themed week? Who doesn’t like a bit of spookiness in June, right? πŸ˜‰ More details to follow!

Hope you all have a great start to the week. Take care x
