Guest Author GM Scherbert with Doc’s Ember

Published July 29, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, weekend is finally here – woot! I have some friends visiting, which I’m very excited about, even if it does mean I have to catch up on all the cleaning I’ve been putting off while trying to catch up on the writing lol! Still, I’ve managed to squeeze in a break to chat with the fab GM Scherbert, who is chatting about her new release, Doc’s Ember – part of her Devil Iron MC Series.

So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.

logoI was born on a brisk late April morning and grew up in a small town in the Midwest but, quickly decided that was not the life for me. I quickly moved away for college and thought better of returning to that small town on a long term basis. City living is the life for me and I found that out while studying abroad in Europe.

My day job working with people on the Autism spectrum keeps me on the go most of the time. That is when the three small daughters and husband are not pulling me in a million different direction.

I am the kind of gal who is quirky, unique, smutty, hard to hate, harder to love. Taking my love for telling stories to the next level by putting my hat in the romance writing game.

If you are interested in romance with twists and some darker themes Author GM Scherbert will be right up your alley.

Sounds like you’re definitely kept busy! Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?

I think it didn’t really hit me until the first time I hit the publish button on Amazon.

It’s a unique feeling isn’t it? Part awesome, part completely terrifying! 🙂 Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?

I use to… I have recently given birth to my third daughter and am not yet in a routine with my writing, I am hoping that quickly changes because these stories will not write themselves.

Aww, well congratulations on the new arrival! Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.

Romance and more specifically Erotica. The draw to me started with an avid interest in reading and grew like wildfire from there.

Are there any particular authors or books that have really inspired you?

Too many to mention.

What five things could you never do without?

My children, my husband, coffee, reading, and wine.

Sounds like a good combination 🙂 Tell us a bit about your new release.

13443118_10153804152391848_8492132203615874962_oMy most recent release is Doc’s Ember. It is the 4th story in the Devil Iron MC Series. It follows a relationship that develops in the previous books. Ember is a young woman who is forced to leave to keep the ones she loves safe- or so she thinks. Doc is the man who loves her and will do anything to have what he wants.

Ooh, I do love a good MC book. Where did your inspiration for it come from?

My vivid imagination. I have had most of the books in the series plotted out since before I started writing the first book about a year ago.

Wow, organised! I’m lucky if I have the characters when I start lol. What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?

I always find researching scenes an enjoyable part of writing. Of course, if I die someone come clean up my browsing history. PLEASE!!!

Hehe, yup I feel you there. It would definitely make for some *ahem* interesting reading. What was the hardest part about writing it?

Just finding time in the day to write is hard. After that keeping the plot points and timelines straight have always been a difficult part of the process for me.

Who’s your favourite character in it? (I know, I know, favouritism!)

I think that my favorite character in this book has to be Doc. He is such a strong caring man, but only the woman whom he loves sees that side of him.

Aww. Why should we run out and buy it right now? 🙂

If you like a steamy read with a happy ever after this book will be right up your alley.

Hehe, who doesn’t? 😉 Well, I’m convinced! The book info is here:

~Doc

When Ember walked out on me I was ready to be put to ground. I barely gave a f*ck what happened to me before, but after she left, I didn’t care at all. The brothers always knew me as a hard ass with no feelings, which only got worse after she left. The night I ran into her at the Dungeon, those feelings of pain, love, and lust returned in an instant. Then I found out about our son, and the pain I had been living with for the past five years blew up, with no one to blame but her. When I find out the truth of why she left, no one will be safe.

~Ember

I thought that what we shared was in the past, leaving me with the most precious of gifts, my baby boy, Vincent. I came back to be closer to my father and thought that no one would notice I was back. I was wrong. As soon as I saw Doc again, all the feelings from the past came rushing back, I lost my heart to him on the spot, for the second time in my life. He is so angry and upset with me for leaving, but I had my reasons, and he will never get an apology from me for that.

When he finds out the truth, no one will be safe from him. Not even me.

Wednesday WIP

Published July 27, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, we’re at another Hump Day – this month seems to be just flying by! Hope you’re all having a good week. I’m definitely keeping busy, but wanted to share with you an excerpt from my current WIP. Hope you like it 🙂

witch-fantasy_00408573Venn stared at the little cottage with some trepidation. It was just so… cutesy. Warm red brick with a neat little garden, shadowed in the growing darkness, leaden-paned windows and a sloping roof. He wouldn’t be surprised to see deer and little bunnies frolicking through the grass. Urgh. This did not look like the home of a powerful witch. Maybe it was a kind of camouflage? Let’s face it he didn’t have a great deal of options. Everyone else had turned him away. If this witch couldn’t help he was pretty much screwed.

He glided through the night to the painted front door. There was a neat, hand-printed sign.

For enquiries, come to back door.

Great. Like a servant, or a delivery person. Gritting his teeth he made his way round to the back and knocked sharply on the door. It flung open, spilling out warm light and framing the form of a small woman. He blinked at her a moment. Short, curvy, brown, slightly frizzy hair pulled back in a messy up-do and thick glasses that gave her the look of a blinking owl. This – this was his last hope?

“Can I help you?”

Her voice was surprisingly rich and smooth. Fine, he was here now, though he wasn’t feeling optimistic.

“I hope so. You are the witch in residence here?”

Maybe she was an assistant or something? There could be someone inside who reeked of power. Her eyes narrowed as though she sensed his thoughts.

“The one and only. I am Elizabeth Garrett Morrigan. And I need a good reason to want to help a vampire.”

He sighed. At least she had enough power to know what he was, that was surely a start.

“My name is Venn Draconius. I was told that you can be sympathetic to those who others shun. I am badly in need of help. I am under a curse.”

Her brow furrowed. “What kind of curse?”

“Could we perhaps discuss inside?”

A male voice came from inside the house. “Libby, don’t you dare invite a vampire in here.”

cottageVenn raised an eyebrow. “I assure you no harm will come to anyone in this house on my account.” His lips twisted cynically. “I give you my word on that. Even if I had the inclination, the execution is no longer possible for me.”

The woman stared at him for a long moment, almost as if she was taking his measure. He was surprised to notice that her eyes behind those huge lenses were actually quite beautiful, a deep forest green with tiny flecks of gold around the iris. Odd, he hadn’t noticed a woman’s eyes in probably a century.

She suddenly stepped back, gesturing him in. “I invite you into my home.”

He gave her a brief bow, before stepping past her into a warm and homely kitchen. Curious, he glanced around for the source of the male voice. Perhaps she felt safe because she wasn’t alone.

“I honestly cannot believe you, Libby.” The voice sounded again, close, like it was in the room, but Venn couldn’t see any sign of anyone. “If we’re all killed in our sleep I swear I will never let you live it down.”

Libby gave a brief smile and gestured to an odd shape on the wall. “This is Huwie. Don’t mind him.”

“Don’t mind me? Don’t mind me! That’s gratitude for you.”

“Is that a starfish?”

Venn stared in bewilderment as one of the tiny creature’s arms flapped around, obviously in time with his distress.

She sniffed. “That is Huwie, he is my friend and my familiar and if you expect me to even consider helping you then you’ll be nice to him.”

Be nice to a talking starfish? Obviously this witch was crazier than he’d thought, but he needed to keep her on side.

“Erm, nice to meet you?”

Was he supposed to shake hands as well, and which of those arm/limb things were classed as hands? He felt the strangest urge to laugh. Again something that hadn’t ocurred to him in more years then he cared to remember.

“Take a seat,” the little witch gestured him to one of the wooden chairs at the table, “and tell me about this curse.”

Hi all,

Hope your weekend is off to a good start 🙂 I’m relieved the heat is coming down slightly here (though I’m sure many of my readers across the pond are mildly amused at us Brits melting in what is probably ‘might need a sweater’ weather fot them lol!). Anyway I’m in a good mood – and we’re having a sale! Scarlett Legacy is free on Amazon for this weekend only.

What if the fairy tales were true – but they had it all wrong? Scarlett Legacy is a fairy tale inspired romance, with a Big Bad Wolf you really won’t want to miss! Here’s a teaser.

His body was like something out of a magazine, or like the Greek statues at the museums she’d been to for tedious fundraisers. Bronzed skin covered sculpted muscles with a dusting of hair leading down into his pants—which, oh Christ, were coming off as well! She closed her eyes a moment, and then couldn’t help herself and had to peek. So much for wondering whether he was going to keep on his underwear as he wasn’t wearing any. He seemed completely comfortable in his nakedness, and when he bent over to neatly place his clothes on the rock she had to clench her hands to restrain from reaching out to that tight ass. Jeez, you could market that! He turned back to meet her gaze and her cheeks flamed at the knowing amusement in his eyes. Before her fuddled brain could even start to think of something to say, he leaned forward and brushed a quick, hard kiss across her lips.

“Don’t worry. You have the exact same effect on me,” he whispered to her and then stepped back. “See you in there,” he told her with a grin, before turning and jumping off the rock straight into the shining water.

Guest Author Sheri Velarde with Stealing Hearts

Published July 22, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, weekend is finally here – woot! To be honest I have so much to get done there’s not going to be a lot of downtime, but, hey, at least I can work from home in my PJs 🙂 For now though, I get to sit back and visit with the fab Sheri Velarde – who is always one of my favourite people to have drop by. Sheri is chatting about her latest release, Stealing Hearts, which is part of her Gods Behaving Badly series. Greek Gods, bad behaviour – sounds like a plan 😉

Why Greek gods in modern times?

Gods Behaving Badly Series 3When I decided to try my hand at an actual book series, the first idea that popped into my mind was that it should be about Greek gods. That is where the idea for the Gods Behaving Badly series started. People since then have asked me why Greek gods? Why not? Not only are there plenty of gods to choose from, which means lots of potential characters for a book series, but they are fascinating to me. I believe that you should write what you know and love, so ancient gods from mythology just made me want to write them. Plus let’s face it, all those overgrown personalities make for some pretty good fiction! Talk about drama! For my own personal deities of lore stories I chose to place them in modern times with diminished powers. Same egos, but more challenges. So far I am liking the results. Looted, the first in the series was pretty well received and I am hoping Stealing Hearts does just as well. I am loving writing this series and in the latest book have already brought in more gods and that means more stories to tell. Here is a little sneak peak from Stealing Hearts.

Excerpt:

The next morning Bruce awoke feeling happier than he could ever recall feeling. Suddenly he snapped open his eyes to make sure that Sophia still lay beside him. Sure enough, she slept peacefully next to him, a slight smile played on her beautiful features, her long auburn hair mussed, making her even sexier. Thank god, or goddess in this case. He had been afraid she’d disappear despite her promise the

night before. Now that his need for her had been abated ever so slightly, maybe he could get her to answer some questions that had been eating him alive since their first meeting. His stomach growled; he forgot when his last meal had been and he had certainly worked up an appetite the previous evening. Quietly, he slipped out of bed, praying that goddesses kept a fully stocked kitchen. Maybe a little breakfast in bed would make her more talkative about the magic she seemed to have awakened within him. He still needed to know what an empath truly was, what he truly was, and what he was capable of doing. It seemed too farfetched to believe he was anything but human. However, he certainly felt different when with Sophia.

Making it to the kitchen, he was thrilled to see Sophia had all the makings for a fine breakfast. He turned on the small television on the counter as he began to get the eggs and bacon ready to cook. Mostly, he just wanted a little noise as he got to work, but something suddenly caught his attention.

“This is the highest profile art heist to hit Los Angeles in history. What is even more puzzling, there is no evidence as to who could have stolen the painting. All cameras and security systems are working properly, and the guards on duty didn’t see or hear anything. No alarms sounded, and the Getty’s systems show that no one entered or exited the premises last night. Van Gogh’s Irises is valued at over fifty-five million dollars, but many consider it priceless. If you have any information please contact the police. This is certainly not how we wanted to start off the New Year…”

Bruce’s heart sank. As he lay asleep last night, exhausted by lovemaking, it appeared Sophia may have been up to her old tricks. How could he ever learn to truly trust a creature such as her? She seemed to be getting bolder too, now she wasn’t just stealing from nefarious rich men, but from the Getty Center, and a high profile piece as well. He must not have provided her with enough excitement last night after all.

Ooh, well I don’t know about you but I’m needing to read more 😉 The book details are here:

Stealing Hearts FinalBlurb

Sophia had fled New York and the feelings that a certain detective had stirred within her. Now she found herself alone in LA on New Year’s Eve, the former goddess of love reduced to having to look for a date. Hitting the Sunset Strip she finds the last thing she was looking for, but exactly who she was yearning for, Detective Bruce Stoker in the flesh. A night of passion leaves her with high hopes for the future, until an art heist threatens everything. Bruce had followed Sophia across the country in order to rekindle the passion he felt during their one night together and to get some much needed answers from her about who he really was, what her really was. Just when he thought he would get his answers, Bruce begins to wonder if he can truly trust Sophia at all. Only time and a mystery will tell.

Wednesday WIP

Published July 20, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, we’re hitting Hump Day so at least we’re making it through the week 🙂 To hopefully help you out I’m sharing an excerpt from my current WIP. This is from the novella I’m working on and is a bit lighter so far than my current series. This is a WIP so isn’t edited yet – hence, please forgive me any mistakes 😉 Really hope you enjoy!

tumblr_n0qucd56B61sjoq1co1_500“A-tishoo!” Libby groaned as the fine yellow powder scattered like the wind. “Damn it!”

“Bless you.”

“Thank you, Huwie.”

Libby quickly cleared up the brightly-coloured dust and then held her breath as she measured out a new portion. She would get this potion finished if it killed her. Some days it felt like it might do.

“So, who are you playing the bleeding heart for this time?”

The voice came from behind her. Libby made sure she sealed the top of the container before turning to scowl at the speaker.

“That’s not nice, Huwie. Mrs Flaherty is really having problems and you know I couldn’t just sit by and watch her suffer.”

witch-fantasy_00408573Huwie swivelled one salt-crusted arm round so his tiny face could peer at her.

“She is not suffering. She laid a guilt-trip on you and you gave in, just like you always do.”

Libby sighed. He was probably right. She was well aware she had issues with saying no to people and sometimes they didn’t realise just what it cost her. Magic was in her blood, the women in her family had been witches for more generations than most people could trace back. It was just unfortunate that she seemed to have problems none of them did.

She removed her thick glasses a moment and rubbed at her watering eyes as she blinked at the potion recipe. She could cope with being allergic to fur, dust, pollen, gluten, various fruits, nuts, to be honest more things that she could generally list – but did she have to be allergic to magic? The one thing that made her vaguely special, that set her apart as something other than a nerdy woman with jamjar glasses, frizz-prone hair and her most significant relationship being with a starfish. Yup, a starfish.

Sexy Saturday Sale!

Published July 16, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your weekend is going well. I’m trying to catch up with some writing, but in the meantime, I have a sale on this week! Love Reawakened is just 0.99 – check out the excerpt below.

witch 2A warm glow curled in her chest at his words. She didn’t remember him ever really thanking her for anything before. “You’re welcome. Thank you for being willing to help me out of this mess.”

He grinned at her. “Hey, it’s my pleasure. It’s not all been horrendous.”

She managed a weak smile back, but all she could see in her mind was the stunning voodoo priestess with her tongue down his throat. Yeah, he was just having a ball, wasn’t he?

“What’s wrong, Emma?” he asked.

“Nothing,” she muttered. “I better go to bed.”

He reached out and took her arm. “It’s not nothing. What’s upset you?”

She scowled at him. “I am not upset. I am just apparently not having as much fun today as you are.”

He was frowning now as well. “What is that supposed to mean? You dragged me in on this. I’ve just been trying to help.”

“Yeah, and it’s been just awful for you hasn’t it, having to put up with gorgeous women jumping you!”

“Well, I don’t know if you quite jumped me, but I suppose since I was almost incapacitated at the time…”

Emma’s face flamed and anger surged through her. “You know damn well I wasn’t talking about me. That woman was all over you, and I didn’t see you exactly complaining about it!”

His eyes widened. “This is about Carisa? That’s what you’re upset about?” He started laughing, and Emma lost the last vestige of her control. Wrenching her arm free, she slammed her fist into his uninjured arm, causing a surprised grunt, and turned on her heel.

“You are a jackass, and I’m going to bed!”

Love Reawakened 3She managed to take two steps before he grasped her again, whirling her around. His lips came down on hers, fierce and demanding, and to her disgust, it took less than ten seconds before she’d stopped struggling and opened her mouth for him. Christ, what was wrong with her? She was furious right now, but all he had to do was touch her and she went up in flames. His tongue plunged deep, possessively, and his arm around her waist crushed her closer. Giving up, she kissed him back just as fiercely, her hand sliding in his hair and her nails digging into his back through his t-shirt. When he pulled back a few inches, they were both breathing heavily.

If you’re not convinced yet, it also has zombies, magic, a witch, a rather ‘ahem’ yummy necromancer and a zombie cat – prizes if you can guess its name! Just what the doctor ordereed for the weekend, and now at a bargain price 😉

Guest Author – T Strange with My Zombie Fiancé

Published July 15, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, Friday is finally here and yay for weekend! It’s kicking off to a good start since I have the wonderful T Strange visiting to chat about her new release, My Zombie Fiance. Now, you probably know I’m no stranger to zombie-themed books (and with a special weakness for zombie cats lol!) so this looks like a fab read for the weekend 🙂 She’s going to start by talking about the book setting – always interesting.

family teaserAll of My Zombie Boyfriend took place in one city, but in My Zombie Fiancé Edward has to leave his comfort zone and head to Kingston—Ontario.

I don’t remember exactly how it happened. It might have just been for the joke:

““I have to go to Kingston.”

Oh my God, no way! I’d love to go to Jamaica!”

Kingston, Ontario.”

Oh.”

I certainly didn’t set out to write a novel set in Ontario, especially a city I’ve never (shhh!) been to, but I think it’s fitting. I have a lot of roots in Ontario; the ancestor I can trace back the furthest in my family tree, a band major who served in the British Army in India, moved to Ontario and started a farm. My ancestors farmed in Ontario for several generations, until they headed West. I’m sure I still have many relatives there.

There’s a new character in My Zombie Fiancé, Claude Jenkins, who is a little tip of my hat to those early Ontario farmers. Even his name has meaning for me—my grandfather’s middle name is Claude, and it was his father’s name, too.

I also apparently have a thing for string players from Ontario??? My last ex was a double bass player from Toronto, and my wife is a cellist from Hamilton (she insists that she isn’t from Hamilton, because she was very young when her family left and she doesn’t remember it. But she was at least span born there.

Ontario is a beautiful province, and one I’d like to explore more in the future! I hope My Zombie Fiancé will encourage and inspire you to visit.

I would love to visit Canada some day – though wouldn’t say no to Jamaica either 😉 Can you tell us a bit about your new release, My Zombie Fiance?

My Zombie Fiancé coverEdward Grey is no stranger to the undead; since raising his cat as a zombie when he was a child, he and his mentor Mariel have explored and developed his power as a necromancer. Despite everything he’s learned, as a necromancer and a medical student, he’s never encountered a ghost.

While Mariel is unreachable in Haiti on mysterious business, a ghost wakes Edward in the middle of the night, claiming to be his grandfather. When the ghost offers to teach him about this different form of undeath, Edward has little choice but to trust the spirit.

After receiving a phone call from a young girl claiming her father is possessed, Edward and his Undead Canadian fiancé, Kit, must travel to an acreage in Kingston…Ontario.

The haunting proves far more complicated than Edward could ever have guessed, and he finds himself pitted against an ancient evil determined to engulf everyone on the farm.

Edward’s love and connection to Kit will be tested, and his necromancy stretched to his limits as he has to find—and destroy—a twisted spirit more powerful than anything he’s ever encountered.

With your purchase of My Zombie Fiancé from Torquere Press you will receive a free copy of My Zombie Cat. eBooks purchased from Torquere Press include all eBook file formats, including Kindle (mobi)

Wednesday WIP

Published July 13, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your week’s going well. We’re here again at Hump Day and I must admit I’m feeling it a bit this week. Am stuffed full of a cold after getting back from weekend – I’ve obviously been in Scotland too long and lost my immunity to all those evil English germs! Since it’s mid-week though I’m sharing an excerpt from my current WIP – which is Katya and Niko’s story. Hopefully it should be out soon, watch this space! In the meantime, hope you enjoy 🙂

wolves-and-werewolves-fire-and-ice-the-wolf-pack-23828159-240-320Tension thrummed through her, every muscle tightening. Her body screamed at her to run, even though her brain knew there was no chance they could outrun a wolf. This was it. This was how she was going to die. And damn it, it really wasn’t fair. Just when things were finally sort of starting to go right for her, when she’d found some family. Now she would never get the chance to see Naomi again, to hold her child, to get her back. Her parents would have a goddamn field day with this one.

Natalia was trying to gently push her back with one hand, her back straightening as she kept eye contact with the wolf.

“Let’s all just stay calm here,” she said to it. “Don’t do something you’re going to regret.”

Seriously? Her niece was trying to reason with a wild animal that looked like it wanted to eat them. And she’d thought she was losing it.

Stay calm. We need to stall it, Damian is on his way.

Okay, scrap that, she was losing it more. She could have sworn she heard Natalia’s voice inside her head. The woman’s lips hadn’t moved, but her words had been clear as day.

You’re not losing it. Please, just trust me.

Sure, she was dying anyway. Why not go just give in to the madness at this stage? What was it the imaginary Natalia in her head had wanted – stall the vicious wild animal. Made perfect sense, right?

Wolf“Good wolfie, wolfie.” She crooned. “See, you don’t want to hurt us really. We’d make a terrible meal, all gristly and that. Plus, I’m American, everyone knows American food is just the worse. Nothing but junk.” She giggled, an edge of pure panic skating it. Yup, she was going to die a crazy woman – nothing new there. The funny thing was the wolf was actually staring at her as she talked with an expression that on a human would only be described as incredulous. Even the wolf thought she was nuts. She giggled again.

Natalia shot her an anxious glance and went back to her own discussion with the wolf. “Just think about this, Carlos. You know this isn’t going to end well. Please, just walk away now.”

Really? The wolf had a name, and it just happened to be the same as the asshat who’d been bothering her this morning? She was about to comment when a low growl from further down the path drew her attention. Shit, there was a second wolf! They were so screwed. Obviously the wolfie word was getting out that dinner was available here.
