Release Day – Love Reawakened

Published June 30, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Squee, it’s release day for Love Reawakened so I’m definitely excited. If you’re looking for witches, zombies, magic, a rather hawt necromancer and, of course, a healthy dose of romance thrown in, then look no further 🙂

Love Reawakened 3Blurb

For Emma Strachan, raising zombies is all in a day’s work. A girl has to pay the bills somehow! But when what should be a simple raising goes horribly wrong, Emma is forced to ask for help from the one man she swore never to see again.

Garret is used to being a loner, as a necromancer he works best that way and frankly, with the dangers he faces every day, it’s easier not to have to look out for anyone else. When Emma shows up on his doorstep desperate for help, he vows to ignore the raging attraction between them – after all a pretty, fun-loving witch has no place in his world.

Now Emma and Garret will need to put aside old resentments in order to try and defeat a zombie unlike anything they have seen before. Trust might not come easy, but it may be their only chance to survive.

You can get your copy on Amazon here – and please do share, I’d really appreciate it.

Wednesday WIP

Published June 29, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your week’s been going well. Mine’s been a busy one and looks like that’s going to continue. Last day at my old job today (yay!) but still fully booked up for the rest of the week – not to mention I have a release out! Speaking of… today’s excerpt is from Love Reawakened, which yup, is re-releasing tomorrow. I’m very excited, so hope you enjoy 🙂

350px-Creatures-Voodoo_priestessGarret dropped her hand to knock on the front door, and when it swung effortlessly open, he stepped inside, with a brief glance back. Emma nodded at him and followed him down a short corridor into a spacious, airy living room. The modern theme followed through here. Spotless, it was like something out of an interior design magazine, the sort of house that looked stunning but you wondered how anyone lived there comfortably. Emma glanced around for any sign of the occupant.

Instead, the only sign of life was a black cat padding silently into the room. For some reason, it made her feel a little more comfortable. Of course, crazy people could still have pets, but somehow, if someone liked animals, they didn’t seem quite as bad.

“Here, kitty.” She crouched down, clicking her tongue.

The cat lazily changed direction to head for her. Emma was reaching down to pet it, when it turned its head, and she jumped back with a shriek. One side of the animal was sleek and normal while the other had several large patches where the skin was hanging off. The animal looked up at her curiously with one bright green eye and one faded milky one.

“Shit! What the hell is it?” she asked Garret.

“Zombie cat.” His tone was bland, but he gazed down at the creature with a look of slight disapproval.

A low, feminine voice rang out from the doorway, making them both whirl around. “Now, now, Garret, you know his name is Mittens. You’ll hurt his feelings talking like that.”

Monday Catch Up

Published June 27, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, Monday rolls around again and let’s hope it’s a better week. I would like to say I’m feeling better about the result on Friday, but as I watch our country descend into chaos it’s rather hard to find a positive side. Our economy is plunging, international companies are already starting the process of pulling out of the UK, here in Scotland we’re looking at a second independence referendum, Ireland is being fed talks of a ‘United Ireland’ again amid serious worries about the jeopardisation of the Good Friday Agreement, and we have no leadership willing or capable to start the complicated and lengthy new negotiations that will now be needed. So many Leave voters seem to be regreting their choice as the reality is now starting to become clear to them and the lies they were fed are already being backtracked on.

As someone living in a very diverse and international city the inward-facing view of a lot of the country is a sad thing. I work for an internationally trading company so am worried for my job. I sell books internationally so now need to check the changes to those conditions. Myself, my generation and all the ones to follow have lost the right to live, work and study in Europe. I have so many friends here who have come from Europe for those very reasons – their position is now in jeopardy and there will be no others able to follow them. The boost they brought to out local economy will be lost, the money they provided to our local universities will be lost. The very diversity that makes up our country is being stamped out on a wave of racism and fearmongering.

I’m now holding my hopes on either Scotland being able to negotiate to stay in the EU separately from the rest of the UK (Denmark has a similar set-up so it’s not without precedent) or Indy2 actually going through. It is not a huge hope but tbh it’s more than the rest of the country has.

Anyway, apologies for the mini-rant – though I know quite a few international friends have been asking me about it, so there you go :p Writing-wise, it’s not been a very productive weekend I must admit. Edits are still coming along though for my wolves book 2 and I’m preparing for the re-release of Love Reawakened so things have still been happening. It’s also the last week of my old job (perhaps under the circumstances I should be keeping it lol!) but at least that will give me some more free time and hopefully a bit less stress.

Hope you have a good week. Take care x

My Sexy Saturday & Cover Reveal

Published June 25, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your weekend is going well. I’m joining in the My Sexy Saturday blog hop today and since the theme is celebration I thought I would celebrate my shiny new cover for Love Reawakened by sharing it here first 🙂 It re-releases on the 30th so not long to go now! In the meantime I hope you enjoy the cover and the teaser.

Love Reawakened 3

Emma moaned as he tangled his hand in her hair, pulling her down so her body was crushed against him. She’d intended to give him a light, teasing kiss, but the moment they touched her senses went into overdrive. His tongue slid along the seam of her lips before plunging within, and groaning, she met it with her own. Her nipples hardened against his chest, even through her thin t-shirt, and his hand slid from her hair down her side to the band of warm skin where her jeans met her t-shirt and then underneath to cup her breast. His thumb rubbed back and forth across the sensitive bud, and a whimper rose in her throat.

Christ, it had always been like this between them. A simple touch was never enough, she always craved more. Her skin burned wherever they touched even through her clothes, and she desperately needed to be closer. She swung her leg across so she straddled him, and as she sank down, his erection met her rapidly dampening core and they both groaned. Oh God, that was just what she needed, only without the two pairs of jeans in the way.

She slid her hands between them, sliding them over the warm skin of his chest, tracing his pectoral muscles and the light smattering of hair. Then her fingers reached the thick bandage at the top, making him wince, and her body froze.

“It’s fine,” he murmured against her lips, trying to pull her back down to him.

She shook her head. What the hell is wrong with me? The guy had nearly died, had been awake for about ten minutes, and instead of trying to make him take it easy like the professional had told her to, she was jumping his bones. She pulled back, covering her face with her hands. This was before she even started on what a bad idea it was in the first place. They’d been down this road before, and he’d made it very clear nothing was going to happen. Didn’t she have enough on her plate right now without getting her heart broken again?

“Emma, what’s wrong?”

His voice was soft, and she forced herself to gaze up at him.

“I’m sorry. I really shouldn’t have done that.”

He smiled at her. “Did you hear me complaining? Unless it’s about the whiplash I just got.”

What do you think? Do feel free to share in the comments! And don’t forget to check out the rest of the excerpts here:

Guest Author Rhiannon Wellman with Lightsong Dynasty

Published June 24, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, it’s Friday and a day of rather a lot of unrest and upset in the UK. I am feeling very disappointed and worried, but shall perhaps chat more about that later. For now though, I’m cheered by the fact I have the fab Rhiannon Wellman visiting to chat about her latest release, The Lightson Dynasty.

Thanks for being here, Rhiannon. So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.

I find this question the hardest to answer whenever I’m asked. I’m never sure what I should say or what a reader would like to know. I’m 34, and wow that’s the first time I’ve had to write that number because it’s my birthday today. Writing is the third biggest passion in my life, after my husband and son. Writing has always been what I do to relax and de-stress, after all, I’m less likely to get arrested for murder for people who annoy/upset me if I only do it in a book.

Aside from a family and my writing, I have a full time job which I’m lucky enough to love which is always a bonus when you spend 13 hours at any one time there.

Aww, well Happy Birthday! Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always made up stories, I used to tell them to my teddies and dolls when I was a little girl. I struggled when I was growing up with dyslexia so reading on my own felt out of reach, so I made up my own. But as I found books that drew me in and didn’t let go until I finished reading no matter how long it took I fell in love with books and the need to create my own was born.

Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?

I will literally write anywhere. I’ve been known to write in the bath. I have apps on my phone, or I’ll write in an email to send to my laptop. I write in notebooks I have a tablet that I take if I’m doing a night shift to write in my break time. No special ritual or routine just as long as I have a way to do it I will write.

Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.

I write over several genres but the common theme is romance. I’m a romantic at heart and love happy endings. Love in whatever form is special and should be celebrated.

Are there any particular authors or books that have really inspired you?

I love to read, and lots of writers have shaped me as a person. ‘The Famous Five’ because that’s what made me read in the first place. ‘The Narnia Chronicles’ because it sparked my imagination in a way other books hadn’t, I’d been on adventures with The Famous Five but always in a setting I could relate to in the sense that they were in the UK doing thing I’d done, go to the beach, picnics or bike riding. Ok not so much catching criminals and saving the day but still. With Narnia, it opened my eyes to other worlds and whole other spheres of possibilities.

As I grew up… ok got older, I discovered Terry Pratchett who taught me so much I wouldn’t have time to tell you all of it if I wrote a thousand words. Things like first thoughts are good but trust your second ones. Make sure you always have a second pair of socks and in the darkest of forests, you should not be afraid because you should be sure that you are the most scary think in it.

Then there’s Harry Potter, seven books with will live in my heart Always.

What five things could you never do without?

My Husband

My Son

My Cats

My books

My writing

In that order

Lightson dynasty_Rhiannon Wellman 200x300Tell us a bit about your new release.

My newest release is The Lightson Dynasty, I loved writing this book. The first of a trilogy I wanted to talk about it because the second book will be out in the next month with the third coming very soon. Here’s the Blurb

Jo isn’t what he seems. Will his grandmother force him to live a life he doesn’t want, or can he figure a way out?

Jo’s life had never been simple. But since he moved in with his grandmother, things only became worse. First, she assumes that Jo stood for Josephine not Joseph. Then she believes all young women should be suitably married, especially her granddaughter, Jo…

So now Jo’s expected to marry a man he’s never met and whose own grandmother also wants the match. But how can he when he must protect his secret?

Marcus would rather spend time with his books and the gentlemen at his club than women, let alone marry one.

With both their grandmothers working against them, will they be able to find their way out of this potentially scandalous situation? After spending time together, will they want to?

Where did your inspiration for it come from?

That’s something I can’t answer, things pop into my head and make themselves comfortable, refusing to leave until I write them.

What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?

The misdirection, little bits of humor and generally allowing two people who thought they would never be able to have the love or relationships that others took for granted to find each other and fall in love and be happy.

Also interfering grandmothers who are far wiser than the younger people give them credit for.

What was the hardest part about writing it?

The language, because it’s a historical book I had to be careful of how everyone spoke. I couldn’t use contractions. Honestly you don’t realize how often you use them until you can’t any more, Just look I’ve just used five in this paragraph.

Who’s your favorite character in it? (I know, I know, favoritism!)

I think Jo would have to be my favorite because he was shown by his parents that he could be himself no matter that it meant he wore dresses rather than trousers. And he lived that way, he lived the way that made him happy, no matter what the consequences would have been if he’d been caught. Which back then would have been dire. That takes bravery. It’s a very brave person who knows and accepts themselves, we should all be so lucky.

Why should we run out and buy it right now?

You mean you haven’t been intrigued enough by my little hints yet, hmm well. How about. The second book in the Lightson Dynasty is called The Lightson Child and is written and with my editor. There will be no long wait for part two, no need to wait to find out what happens next in the lives of our two heroes. Yes there is a third book in in the works which will be longer, it is half written though so that will be out by the end of the year.

I invite you to the lives and families of Jo and Marcus. Part of the family of people who live in my head. Come join my family.

Wednesday WIP

Published June 22, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your week’s going well. I’m down to the third to last day at my old job so feeling quite cheery 🙂 I’m also re-releasing Love Reawakened a week tomorrow (third time lucky’s right? lol) and can’t wait it get it back out there. I’m going to be sharing my shiny new cover with you at the weekend, but in the meantime here’s a teaser snippet. Hope you enjoy 🙂

e357bcbdf3612bebf7cd279e7f997beaGarret sank into the battered armchair and brought the glass of scotch to his lips. Taking a long draught, he sighed in exhaustion. It had been a long night. Some days, he thought he was just getting too old for this. There were more aches and pains every night, and long gone was the slim sense of satisfaction he used to get. He rubbed a hand wearily over his face, frowning at the two-day-old stubble, and downed some more of the scotch. Stop being such a pussy! It’s a job. That’s all, and tonight had just been a tough one.

At first, he barely registered the knock at the door, his senses dulled by alcohol and pure exhaustion. Then it came again louder, and he frowned, glancing at his watch—four a.m. Who on earth would be knocking on his door at this hour? Well, whoever they were, they were going to get an earful. He didn’t take jobs at home, and everyone should damn well know that. He flung open the door with a sharp retort already forming on his lips, only to stand there in stunned silence, his jaw nearly on the floor when he saw who it was.

“Emma?” he managed in astonishment.

She gave him a small smile. “Garret, it’s been a long time.”

He gaped at her. Emma Strachan was the last person he expected to see. His gaze swept over her, searching for any changes the last several years might have wrought. Small and slight, she barely came up to his shoulder. That, along with delicate features, meant people always underestimated her. He tried not to smile; they rarely did it twice. She had a fiery temper and a wicked tongue. In more ways than one. The thought popped into his head, and he quickly squashed it down. Her dark auburn hair was pulled back from her face and plaited down her back, and she wore combats, thick boots, and a light cardigan. If he wasn’t mistaken, with dried blood on it and across her hands.

nightFor a second, his stomach dropped, but she seemed unhurt, and, then again, blood wasn’t unusual in her profession. One of the things they had in common, at least. He forced himself to meet the deep green of her eyes. She was scared, he realised with a shock, and it took quite a bit to scare Emma.

“What the hell have you got yourself into?”

Colour rose in her cheeks, but she met his gaze directly. “I may have lost a zombie.”

See, at least my day at work won’t be that bad (I hope!). Take care x

Monday Catch Up

Published June 20, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, Monday rolls round again. Has been a bit of a frazzling week – think I have a broken toe so have been hobbling round all week. Managed to rest it up over the weekend so fingers crossed it might be a bit better today. Also only have two weeks left doing the two jobs – which will be a relief and free me a lot more time up for the writing side.

witch 2Speaking of which, it’s been all go! I’ve started final edits for book 2 in my wolves series, which even has a tentative title of Scarlett Seduction. (As you may know titles are hard for me, I tend to agonise over them constantly). The feedback so far from my wonderful beta readers has been very positive 🙂 I’m also working on re-releasing Love Reawakened, my zombie story, which I think is going to have a new release date of the 30th June. I’ve got a shiny new cover for it as well, which I should be sharing later in the week – really hope you’ll like it!

I’m thinking next week’s blog posts might need to have something special in the lead-up – maybe a zombie themed week? Who doesn’t like a bit of spookiness in June, right? 😉 More details to follow!

Hope you all have a great start to the week. Take care x

Guest Author Pumpkin Spice with Rough Edges Anthology

Published June 19, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Here we are on Sunday, and wishing a Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. Today I have the fab Mary Billiter visiting. Mary is also known as Pumpkin Spice (which I think may be the most adorable pen name ever!) and is here to chat about being part of the Rough Edges Anthology. Who doesn’t want a few hot cowboys for the weekend 😉

Billiter headshotLittle Known Facts About “My Midnight Cowboy”

Mary Billiter writing as “Pumpkin Spice”

1. John Wayne Airport, Orange County (SNA) is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California, which was home to legendary film star John Wayne and…Pumpkin Spice! That’s right the Queen of Spice hails from Sunny So Cal along with “the Duke.” So who’s “Duke” John Wayne? Only the most famous cowboy actor of all time! And here’s some more trivia…John Wayne and Pumpkin Spice have something else in common…they both worked under a stage name! That’s right John Wayne’s real name was Marion Robert Morrison, yeah, I’d work under a stage name too! And Pumpkin Spice? Well Mary Billiter came out of the spice cupboard this year…

2. “My Midnight Cowboy” wasn’t the first book of erotic romance I’ve had published, but it’s the first book of erotic romance I wrote. After wrapping up a very G-rated, sweet romance, I found myself almost bored by the saccharin ending. And I wrote it! Then I visualized Lucy and her bestie, Rachel, walking into John Wayne Airport on their way to some big adventure – only Lucy was flying solo – literally and figuratively. When this really hot, but super annoying, wise-ass pipes up in line, everything in Lucy’s world tilts on its axis. Ben and Lucy popped off the page and onto the plane, train and back on the plane before I had a chance to put the brakes on the heat that was happening between them. This story wrote itself. So while I had never written erotica, once Lucy started to describe her baking techniques to Ben, well, there was magic in the air. It also didn’t hurt that it was New Year’s Eve, because, really, anything’s possible on the eve of a New Year.

3. There’s a little bit of Pumpkin, or Spice, in each of these characters. At one time in my life, I worked as a recruiter (Rachel), I owned, rode, and cared for horses and cattle on a ranch (Ben & Scott), and I consider myself a quasi-baker (Lucy) with absolutely no culinary training, but I have logged a lot of time watching “Chopped,” “Cupcake Wars,” and “Cake Boss.” I mean, that, counts, right?

Sure, I think we can let you off with that 😉 Check out the blurb for Pumpkin’s story in the anthology, My Midnight Cowboy.

If chocolate is the way to a man’s heart, then pastry chef Lucy Baker has the recipe for success. But will her culinary skills melt the most-hard hearted bachelor in Wyoming?

A chance encounter on a New Year’s Eve flight leaves two strangers to discover unbound pleasure and a hunger for more sexual discovery.

Cover Rough Edges.jpgRough Edges Anthology Blurb:

Work hard, play hard, love hard…

Nothing is sexier than someone who knows what they want and has the confidence go after it. This anthology is crammed full of hot romances featuring those kinds of rough-around-the-edges alpha personalities–stories about the kind of men and women who ride horses during the day and their partners at night, who speak few words but mean every one of them, and who would never break their own personal code of honor. We’re talking about cowboys… and cowgirls.

This anthology contains seven romances with a Western theme that run the gamut from sweet to sizzling.

Sexy Saturday

Published June 18, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope your weekend’s off to a good start! I’ve been having a slightly frazzling week, so glad to reach weekend and have a chance to put my feet up (well , put my feet up with the laptop on my knee at least lol). Since it’s Saturday I’m sharing an excerpt and this is from Scarlett Legacy. Edits on book 2 are coming along well, can’t wait to share with you all. But in the meantime, hope you enjoy this snippet 🙂

WolfDamian’s jaw clenched as he watched her amble through the woods, seemingly lost in her own world and paying no attention to any possible dangers. He lifted his head, breathing in deeply to take in her scent on the drifting breeze. While he’d been expecting a reaction it still hit him like a sucker punch in his gut. His stomach clenched and his body hardened.

His inner beast was already raging at him. The burning need to mark her, to possess her, rising up within like a force of nature but he grit his teeth and forced it down. He was not some undisciplined pup unable to control himself. Years of leading his people had driven into him patience and control above all else.

Instead, he forced himself to stay hidden for now, easily keeping pace with her. She was exactly as he’d always imagined—dark curls flowed down her back and framed delicate features, high cheekbones, and huge dark eyes with thick lashes. Everything about her drew him in, but he’d waited too long to rush things now.

When he’d first sensed her, that indescribable pull that couldn’t be anything else, he’d thought he was going crazy. He’d given up hope long ago, and yet there she was, walking through his woods as though she’d always been meant to be there.

sl rough 4He watched as she paused, looking around her with confusion on her face. She turned in a slow circle, her brow furrowed, and her teeth biting into her lush bottom lip. She was lost, he realized. Well, that was just perfect. His teeth bared in a wicked smile, he could go and “rescue” her. She would think he was Prince Charming when actually he was the big bad wolf.

Monday Catch Up

Published June 13, 2016 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Ck0RTEAXEAAGQMi.jpgAm feeling a little sober this week, the events in Orlando are just heart-breaking – an attack not just on the US but on the LGBT community in particular. It’s so so sad that in this day and age, with all the advances we’ve made, that some people still feel so threatened by the fact that someone is different to them. How can we call ourselves a progressive society when people are still discriminated against, persecuted and even killed because of their sexuality, or race, or religion or anything else for that matter. The only good thing I see is the show of solidarity from around the world – the image of the Eiffel Tower, lit up in rainbow colours, was especially moving.

It seems a little odd to chat about my week in light of that, but it has been a busy one. Wolves_wolf_great_wallpapers_for_your_deskopAll booked and confirmed for the RNA Conference now, and have even had the chance to chat to some other first-timers which has made me a little less nervous. I also have an industry appointment booked so need to get my first chapter and synopsis sent off for that asap! I wasn’t actually planning on sending this book out until later in the year (after the second in my wolves series had been released) so am feeling a little rushed – but it’s a good opportunity so worth trying I think. Tbh the person I’m seeing is slightly off-genre for me, but I’m still thinking it was a valuable chance to get to chat to someone in the industry and maybe get some good feedback.

I’m also starting final edits on my wolves book this week – hoping to finalise a release date for next month – as well as reformat my zombie romance for re-release, as it reverted back to me when my old publisher closed down. So much to do, so little time!

Anyway, hope you have a good start to the week. Take care x
