Tuesday Teaser

Published December 29, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, Christmas might be over but the house is still full of food, the decorations are still up, and I’m still getting through the xmassy reads, so thought would share one final teaser from my Christmas story before it gets put away for the year lol. Hope you enjoy  🙂

Angel 600x400A few hours later Daniel stood in his normally tidy, minimalist living room that currently looked like a Christmas-themed explosion had taken place. “A few decorations” seemed to have turned into a tree that almost brushed the ceiling that Laurel and Rachel were trimming with tinsel and what looked like an infinite amount of shiny baubles.

He’d never really done the whole Christmas thing. When he was a kid his mother had never been too interested. There’d seemed little point when he was on his own and God knows Karen had never cared about anything like that. He gazed at Laurel balancing on a step ladder to reach the top of the tree and leaning down to ask Rachel her opinion on which ornaments should go where. She always included the child in everything, and he realized she always included him too. Laurel threw herself into everything; a complete contrast to the bored dates he normally dealt with who would rather die then show the least bit of enthusiasm for anything. It was like a breath of fresh air blowing through the house.

She looked over as though she felt his gaze on her and smiled at him. Her eyes sparkled as she gestured him over. “I think we need a second opinion here. Should the star or the angel go on the top of the tree?”

He grinned at her. “Definitely the angel. What do you think, Rachel?”

The little girl nodded energetically. “That’s what I said, Daddy, but Laurel doesn’t think it looks like a real angel.”

Daniel laughed, and looked over at Laurel, surprised to see she looked nervous. She must be thinking about the argument her first night, when I’d told her not to let Rachel believe in angels. I was definitely a bit of an ass. Rachel was only a little girl, she would figure the truth out eventually. God knows there were worse things to believe in. He smiled at her, trying to think of something to say to let her know he regretted it now.

“So, what does a real angel look like then?” he tried teasingly.

If anything the look had now changed to panic, and Rachel piped up from below.

“Like Laurel, of course, Daddy. She’s a real angel.”

Monday Catch Up

Published December 28, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

christmas_night_by_juli_snowwhite-d5p3uiuWell, it feels like Christmas is officially over! Hope you’ve all had a lovely time, whatever you might have been up to. I’ve had a really nice Christmas, got to spend time with family, treated to some fab pressies and stuffed my face with yummy food – you can’t go wrong with that 😉 I was a little concerned as have been in North-West England for the weekend with all the flooding, and while it’s been worrying seeing so many areas I’m familar with suffering (and I’m wishing them all the best in hopefully getting the water cleared and getting back to normal as soon as possible) then I think we managed to avoid the worst of it and got back home to Scotland without any major problems.

da568bd341a4558129846c9a980fc384So, today am back at home with a rare day off so having a nice chilled out day. Obviously it’s New Year this week, which always tends to be a time of reflection for me – thinking about what I’ve achieved this year and what I’m hoping for in the year to come. I must admit 2015 has had it’s ups and downs and there’s a part of me that will be rather glad to see the back of it – but, hey, we’re all still here and you can only move forwards, right? I have some big plans for 2016 so let’s hope it’s onwards and upwards 🙂

Take care x

Guest Author Interview – Ember Leigh

Published December 27, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas! I’m travelling back home today after visiting family (well, hopefully anyway, we’ve had bad flooding down here so fingers crossed it doesn’t mess up the trains!) but I was lucky enough to take some time out to chat to the fab Ember Leigh about her new release.

Ember Leigh Author PicWelcome Ember, and thanks so much for taking time out over the festive period to talk to us 🙂 So, let’s start with you telling us a bit about yourself.

My name is Ember Leigh—erotic romance author with a penchant for TRAVEL! I think that’s really all anyone needs to know about me. I have a lot of trouble sitting still.

Hehe, I do know that feeling! Was there a specific moment where you first knew that you wanted to be a writer?

Since my earliest days, I’ve known I would be an author! I don’t know why it sprang forth, it just did. My mother and grandmother are also writers, so I think I come by it honestly. As of age 9, I had it set in my head that I was a writer, and that was that.

Aww, that’s lovely to have the family history of writing. Do you have a particular writing routine, or any special rituals?

Pfff—I WISH I had a writing routine! I try to, at least. But really, what happens is I try to work on writing-related tasks whenever I can, like blogging, editing, revising, etc. The actual first-draft-novel-writing tends to come in unpredictable spurts—and I just have to hold on to the reins and let the words pour out!

Hmm, that sounds worryingly familar 😉 Tell us about the genre you write in, and what drew you to it.

Erotic romance, baby! Within that, however, I’m also including sub-genres—regular adult contemporary, NA, even suspense. But always with the erotic element. I don’t know why I was drawn to it. Probably has something to do with all the fan fiction I read back in the late 90’s…that stuff could get pretty explicit.

I do seem to recall something of the sort *gets the fan out* Perhaps we should move on lol! What five things could you never do without?

1. My husband (wait, I guess he’s not a thing…oh well, I’m keeping it). 2. My day planner. 3. Red Wine (preferably South American). 4. My yoga mat. 5. My library!

Yup, can’t manage without a library 🙂 Speaking of which, tell us a bit about your new release.

It’s “Turkish Delight”, which is book #3 of my travel-themed short story series, Erotic Destinations. This book follows Jenna in Miami, where she works as an assistant on the set of a reality dance competition. One of the guests for the new season is Kadir, a sexy Turkish soap opera. Once he lands in Miami, all sorts of sparks fly!

Ooh, sounds interesting. Where did your inspiration for it come from?

Watching a reality dance competition in Argentina this summer, when my husband and I were visiting his family. Watching television in Spanish allows me to view the action on the screen in a different way. I don’t know if it’s because I only understand 85% of the crazy-fast Argentinian Spanish, or if it’s because I’m culturally removed. Either way, I was daydreaming a little while this particular show was on and, voila! Turkish Delight was born!

It’s always fun when something sparks that idea! What did you find most enjoyable about writing it?

The glitz and luxury of celebrities in Miami!

Oh, yes please! And what was the hardest part about writing it?

Keeping it to a short story! I mean, short stories are always hard for me—it seems like I’m perpetually destined to be ONLY a novelist. The characters in this one really wanted me to keep writing, though. I might revisit them in a future installment, who knows?

It’s always nice when the characters call you back. So, in case we’re not convinced already, why should we run out and buy it right now?

Because of these three reasons: Miami, steamy, and $0.99!

Well, I think it’s definitely going on my reading list 🙂 Here’s the details:

Cover - Turkish DelightBlurb

In the reality TV business, everyone is either a hottie or horny. When Turkish soap opera star Kadir shows up in Miami as a contestant on the dance show, Jenna is entranced. She’s made it a point to never go there with any of the celebrities she mingles with on a daily basis…but there’s something about Kadir that makes her second-guess her bottom-line. With so many women clawing for his attention, Jenna wants no part of the hullabaloo…but tasting this Turkish Delight might be worth bending the rules just once.

Christmas Reading Recommends

Published December 23, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Just a few days to go until Christmas! Are you all feeling festive? I’ve been enjoying getting through lots of Christmassy reads, some new and a couple re-reads from previous years – so I thought I would share reviews on a few of my personal favourites, in case you’re looking for a bit of inspiration 🙂

27256825The Perfect Gift (3 Wise Men) – Serenity Woods – 4 star

This was an enjoyable and sweet read about two people with troubled pasts who come together. Brock is just passing the two year anniversary of his wife’s death from cancer, he always swore that he would never love again, but single mum Erin makes him question that vow. Erin has always had terrible taste in men, ending with her son’s father who left them when she was pregnant, and has tried to focus on her son since, especially with him having life-threatening asthma attacks. While drawn to Brock, a doctor who has helped with her son’s treatment, she struggles with self-esteem in wondering what a billionaire doctor would see in her.

The struggles of both the characters were done well, and were relatable to. Brock’s guilt over moving on after his wife, and Erin’s struggle to accept being with someone rich after scrimping for every penny for years. It was nice to see them both working through those though and coming together. Could have maybe done with a little more conflict, but then I’m maybe a bit evil and like my characters to suffer a bit for their HEA lol!

I did really like the background of Brock in particular, he and his two brothers combine their very different skills to help sick children, calling themselved the ‘Three Wise Men’. The insight into the other two brothers was interesting and I’m assuming they will have their own stories to follow. I also liked a lot of the secondary characters, and Erin’s son was really cute, would have been nice to see more of him.

Overall, a fun and sweet story about people finding love when they had both given up on it. I will be looking out for more in the series.

23508066.jpgFrosty Relations – Tara Quan – 4 stars

Mina is a familar while Jack Frost (as you might guess by the name lol) is a frost mage/warlock. They’ve known each other since childhood, Mina has always been in love with him and was destined to be Jack’s familar, instead he rejected her and that life and now they both work in ‘normal’jobs. When they both sign up for a paranormal one-night stand service they end up matched with each other.

It’s hard to find something a bit different when reading PNR but this managed it. Mina and Jack were both quite different kinds of paranormal creatures to the usual and I liked the details on their powers and the way they complemented each other magically. Mina was a great character, strong and independent, not afraid to stand up to Jack and their banter was fun and amusing. Jack initially came off as a bit of a petulant child, used to having his own way in everything, but you saw more to him as the story went on and he became a much more likeable character. It was also fascinating to see him using his powers in the bedroom – it certainly made things interesting 😉

Overall, a really enjoyable and fun story. Will definitely look for more in this series.

51+azFaf41L._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Blame it on the Fruitcake – Pat Henshaw – 4 stars

Sam is a working-class mechanic who has no family and was raised in a children’s home. When he arrives home to fruitcake on his doorstep and an invite to his new neighbours party he isn’t going to bother going – until he tastes the fruitcake! When he meets his new neighbour, Jay, he doesn’t understand why someone so hot, with a fancy job and a loving family would be interested in him.

This was a really fun and sweet read. Sam’s obsession with fruitcake was hilarious, as well as his despair with Jay’s meddling family. They were a lovely couple and you did slightly want to shake Sam sometimes for his insecurities, but it was nice to see him starting to work through them. I’m not always a fan of first person narrative but it did work well here, Sam’s internal voice was really funny and I loved some of his turns of phrases. It might have been nice to get a little more insight into Jay’s side of things, but that’s the trade-off I suppose.

Overall, this was a really sweet and funny romance that will def get you in the Christmas mood – and probably wanting fruitcake! Will def look for more from this author.

indexNot so Silent Night – Sheri Velarde – 4 stars

Anna is a witch and a Christmas cynic so is not looking forward to the holidays – all that changes when a gorgeous Russian bear shifter shows up at her flower shop. There’s instant sparks between them but they will have to deal with trouble from the local werewolf pack.

This was a hot and steamy romance, with a nice Christmas theme. I liked Anna as a character and her powers were fascinating, it also was interesting to see them growing as the story progressed. Alexander was a scrummy shifter hero, but it was nice to see a change from the over-the-top alpha personality that often seems to go with that. While he was protective of Anna, he was also sweet and believed in her own abilities. The sex scenes were well-written and definitely fan-inducing 😉

Overall, a fun paranormal read, with a good mix of sweet and sexy.

index2Heart of the Season – Julianna Douglas – 5 stars

This really did have it all in a Christmas story, gorgeous yet scarred military hero, sweet yet strong animal activist, adorable hero dog, and a few Christmas miracles 🙂

Zach would never have survived the bomb blast that scarred his body and took his leg if it wasn’t for Akilah, the dog he befriended in Afganistan. When he wakes up back in hospital in the US, it’s not his leg he misses the most, but his furry best friend. He’s been desperately trying to get her out of there, but with military regulations and the remote location of the base it’s been an impossible task. Enter Jeannie, who runs an animal shelter in Afganistan, specialising in helping military personnel get their animals home.

The relationship development between them was really well done, being on opposite sides of the world they initially can only communicate over email and skype, which was a little unusual and allowed you to see the emotional attachment growing between them even before they had ever met in person. Jeannie was a really sweet and caring person, passionate about her work and protective of the people she cares about. Zach – well, what can I say?

Gorgeous army hero with a love for animals – yes please. I liked that the author didn’t make him too perfect though, his insecurities about himself after his accident, as well as issues from a past relationship give him a vulnerability, and it was nice to see him starting to get some self-esteem back by the end, with Jeannie’s help.

This was a well-paced story, great characters, including some good supporting players, a sweet and well-developed love story, some steamy sex and a strong belief in Christmas miracles. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be looking for more from this author.

HolidaysInHell_ByErzabetBishop-453x680Holidays in Hell – Erzabet Bishop – 4 stars

Jonas is an incubus, trapped into a deal with a demon, he has to deliver a certain number of souls within a timeframe or he’s dead. There’s just one soul to go, but time is running short. When he meets Holly, a erotica reading book-seller who is still mourning her husband and dom, they have an instant connection. Will Jonas be willing to sacrifice her though?

This was a fun read, short and steamy. Jonas was an interesting character, the big bad demon with a secret love for all things Christmassy. Holly was sweet and endearing, trying to come to terms with the loss of her beloved husband, while struggling with the guilt of being able to move on. The sex scenes were steamy and well-written, and though I would personally have liked a little more on the relationship development side, I appreciate you don’t always get that in a short story.

I thought some of the secondary characters were interesting, and would be intrigued to see more of them in further books. They did all suddenly seem to appear out of nowhere at the end though, and the ending for me did feel a little rushed, I would have liked it to be more of a confrontation between Jonas and Bael. Personal preference though I suppose.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, hot demons, some steamy sex, and a good dose of Christmas spirit.

index3Ribbon of Darkness: The Trouble with Elves, Book 1 – Decadent Kane – 4 stars

Ribbon lived a perfectly normal life, working in her parents bookstore. But now, weird things are happening to her ears, the hot and mysterious Draven keeps showing up, and before she knows it Ribbon is finding out that not only is she not what she seems, but that her and her family may be the only ones who can save Christmas.

I’m a big fan of Decadent Kane’s elves and this delivers a fun and sexy short read with a nice dose of Christmas spirit. Ribbon is an endearing and relatable character while Draven takes Santa’s elves in a whole different direction 😉 Enjoyable read, and will definitely warm you up on cold winter nights!

Tuesday Teaser

Published December 22, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

First of all, it’s Winter Solstice, so wishing you all a Happy Yule 🙂 It’s the longest day of the year here, so after tonight we can the nights will get lighter and spring will be coming.

It’s also the last working day for me before Christmas – woot! Hope you’re having a good week – I’ve been catching up on some festive reading, and I’ll be sharing some of my favourites here tomorrow! For now, it’s Tuesday so that means I’m sharing a teaser, and it’s from my own festive read, An Angel for the Tree. Hope you enjoy 🙂

Angel 600x400Laurel’s eyes filled with tears and, without thinking, she pulled him down to her and wrapped her arms round him. “You are not a bad person, Daniel. Just someone who bad things have happened to them. You didn’t deserve it.”

For a long moment they just stood there, and she could feel the warmth of his body pressed against her as her arms held him to her. He slid his arms round her, pulling her closer. She brushed her fingers over the bare skin at the nape of his neck, feeling a mix of desire and tenderness.

He sank his fingers into the hair at the back of her neck and tilted her head up. Her vision was still slightly blurry, but she saw his eyes widen as he met her gaze. He gently cupped her face in his hands and carefully wiped away the tears with his thumbs.

“I don’t think anyone has ever cried for me before in my life.”

Her heart clenched. He lowered his head to softly brush her lips with his, before lightly dropping kisses at the corner of her mouth, up her cheek, across her still damp eyes and then back to her lips. This time she pulled him down to her, deepening the kiss and revelling in the groan he gave against her lips. He tilted her head back so he could plunge his tongue deeper, and she moaned, liquid fire running through her veins.

Some faraway part of her brain was saying that this was a really bad idea, but the rest of her was lost in the feeling of his lips on hers, the heat of his body crushed against her. She’d never understood human emotions before, hadn’t realized how all consuming they could be. It was more then desire, she felt an overwhelming need to wrap him up and protect him from a world that had been so cruel to him. It was a ridiculous thought when he towered over her but she couldn’t push it away.

Monday Catch Up

Published December 21, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

b3fca9a30c442b282bb9b27967ea120eWell, it’s Monday again, but it’s the Monday before Christmas so surely that means it’s not too bad? Are you all getting in a festive mood? I must admit I’ll feel a little more Christmassy when I’m done with the day job, but have been binging on xmassy reads and movies so am getting there slowly 🙂

Have had a nice relaxed weekend for a change. Saw the new Star Wars on Saturday – I’m not going to give any spoilers, but I enjoyed it. I don’t know if I would rave about it like I’ve seen some people doing, but thought it was a good start to the ‘reboot’ and some lovely moments that made my inner geek go squee! Yesterday visited some friends for a festive crafting afternoon, complete with lots and lots of yummy festive baking. I’m a terrible cook myself, so am lucky I have friends who are amazing in the kitchen 🙂 (and happy to share!)

So writing-wise, I must admit it’s been a little quiet. Still not 100% health-wise so am trying to take it easy. Have been doing a little promo for my xmassy release (so check it out if you haven’t already, lol!) but other than that, just getting ready for Christmas and making some plans for the New Year (but probably more on that later). Hope you’re all having a good start to the week, and aren’t getting too stressed with festive preparations.

Take care x

Hi all,

Hope you’re having a great weekend 🙂 (last weekend before Christmas, wow it’s creeping up!). I’m thrilled to have the lovely Carolyn LaRoche visiting today to talk about her fab new release In the Shadow of the Shield, as well as a bit about her publishing journey. Thanks so much for being here, Carolyn!

Carolyn LaRoche Author picture-1Thank you so much to Shelli Rosewarne for inviting me to visit with all of you. I’m so excited to be here to share my newest release, In the Shadow of the Shield, the second book in the Secret Lives series. The first book in the series, Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos, made its debut through Limitless Publishing in November. It’s been a very busy month making my way through the series’ new home. The original publisher closed its doors just a few weeks after Undercover in Six Inch Stilettos was released for the first time and In the Shadow of the Shield never even made it to edits. Losing my place in the publishing world so quickly after finding it was disheartening but didn’t deter from moving forward.

Finding a new publisher was not something I intended to do right away. I’d been researching and looking around but after dealing with the first loss, I wasn’t anxious to jump back in again. While I mulled over my choices, I worked on editing and discovered I had a bit of a knack for formatting. If nothing else ever panned out, I was prepared to self-publish my already written books and then start over again. It was sheer luck that I happened upon #Pit2Pub on twitter and total whim that I decided to toss my hat into the ring. Imagine my surprise when the series quickly found a new home with an amazing publisher!

What I have learned through all of this is when one door closes, another truly does open. Had I not found that first publisher, I might not have met so many wonderful writers. I also probably wouldn’t have had a single clue as to how to present myself on social media, market my work or just make a presence for myself out there. The experience I gained there prepared me for future and I will always be grateful for that. I’ve also entered this second phase in my publishing journey with a lot more understanding of contracts and royalties and author ranks and blog tours. Having that knowledge this time around has made it that much less overwhelming and that much more enjoyable to watch my dreams become reality.

Thanks so much for sharing. I think it is great advice for any writers looking for a home for their work, whether their first or not, to make sure they look into everything carefully and find a good fit for them. Congrats on finding that! So, I’m sure we’re all dying to know about the book 🙂

In the Shadow of the Shield CoverBlurb

When a police officer falls, justice must be served.

Donnie Massey was an honest, skilled police officer. That’s probably what got him killed. When his wife Diana watches him die in front of her, the worst part is going to be telling their son, Jackson.

After a year of mourning, Diana decides it’s time to move on with their lives. The first step to getting closure is to visit Donnie’s grave. But when she gets there, she’s not alone…

Good cops are rare. Carter Ryan is one of them.

Mentored by Donnie, Carter is at the grave when his widow shows up. It may not be the best timing, but he needs her help. Diana agrees to aid in unveiling the truth. Donnie deserves that much.

The definition of insanity…

As the two work side by side, a new and delicate romance begins to bloom. But would falling for another cop be the worst mistake of Diana’s life, or the best decision she’s ever made? My Sexy Saturday 19/12/15

Published December 19, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

It’s Saturday and I’m excited because I’m off to see the new Star Wars today! Fingers crossed it will be good 🙂 In the meantime though, I’m happy to be joining in the My Sexy Saturday blog hop. The theme this week is Holidays, so I’m sharing an excerpt from my Christmas story, An Angel for the Tree. Hope you enjoy – and don’t forget to check out the other blogs here:

Angel 600x400Rachel was tugging on his hand again, seemingly oblivious to the adults interaction. “Daddy, come make a snow angel with me, Laurel was showing me how.”

He stared down at her, completely out of his depth. “Erm, I should probably go back inside.”

Her lower lip jutted out. “Ple-ase, Daddy. I can show you how to do really good ones.”

Yeah, he wasn’t going to win on this, and he let her drag him across to a wide patch of clear snow.

“Wait a second.” Laurel called out behind him. She pulled the woolly hat off her head and handed it to him. “You’ll catch cold without a hat on.”

Daniel stared in it confusion and laughing she stepped over and pulled it down over his ears.

“How can you live out here and not have a woolly hat?”

For a moment he just stared at her dumbly. He could smell the scent of her hair on the silly woolly thing and for a moment her fingers lingered, lightly brushing his hair back where it settled, before she seemed to catch herself and pull back. There was an odd warmth running through him, despite the snow falling around him.

Review – Holidays in Hell by Erzabet Bishop

Published December 18, 2015 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Weekend is here! I’ve been getting in the holiday spirit with lots of xmassy reads, and was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Holidays in Hell by the fab Erzabet Bishop. I’ll give you wee tip, you might not want to read in front of the fire – you’ll be more likely to need a fan afterwards 😉

This year Christmas just got a little hotter.

Deck the halls with all things kinky. Jonas is an incubus with an incurable lust for women, gingerbread, and holiday lights. He needs one more soul to meet his quota. Amid the baubles and frivolity of the Winter Carnival, he meets Holly Pendleton—a woman with emerald green eyes and a body built for sin—and marks her as the final soul to end his contract. But now Jonas faces a heart-wrenching decision: take what he needs to feed his hunger, or sacrifice himself for the woman who has lit his own demonic

soul on fire. Tied up with red ribbons, Holly just might be Jonas’s deepest Christmas wish and the one woman who could set him free.

Holly Pendleton is still recovering from the death of her husband and Dom. The holidays are especially lonely until a dark stranger walks in the door to Harlowe’s Bookery and Christmas Shoppe. The man’s enigmatic gaze holds her and ignites her body and her mind. When Holly accepts a job to decorate the sexy client’s apartment, she unknowingly steps into an age-old battle between the forces of darkness. Jonas Corsair is a man who makes her blood run hot and her dreams even hotter. But will she survive his hold on her soul?
