My Sexy Saturday – 16th August

Published August 16, 2014 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, today I’m thrilled to be joining in on the My Sexy Saturday blog – and it will probably come as no surprise that my seven paragraphs this week are from my new release, Follow the White Rabbit. It’s a fun, short read inspired by the world of Wonderland – I really hope you enjoy! Don’t forget to check out the other great excerpts here.

Follow the White Rabbit 267x400

Mary Ann was embarrassed to feel tears burn her eyes, and she squeezed them shut. “If anyone was looking for me then they would have found me by now. Obviously no one cares.”
The silence stretched out, and she forced herself to open her eyes, needing to see his face, though half-expecting there to be disgust etched on it. She was pathetic; apparently she couldn’t even do a one-night stand without fucking it up before it even started. He was staring at her, but the look on his face was odd and unreadable.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I just feel so alone sometimes, I think I’m going mad.”
A small smile curved his full lips. “We’re all mad here, little mouse.”
She found herself reluctantly smiling back. Perhaps he was right. His smile suddenly broadened into that wide grin.
“I think perhaps you need to see something strange and beautiful.”
He held out his hand, Mary Ann took it before she thought to question. Her feet instantly felt rather odd, as though bubbles were tickling her skin, and looking down she gave a shriek of alarm to see them starting to disappear. He winked at her.
“Don’t let go.”

Blurb:

In Wonderland the strange and magical is everyday, but when a woman who can’t remember her own name meets a shape-shifting cat, anything can happen.
Mary Ann doesn’t remember her life before she wandered into the Woods of Forgetfulness. She doesn’t remember who she was, where she came from, or even her real name—and she’s given up on anyone coming to look for her. Now, she works for the White Rabbit, and if she’s not deliriously happy at least her life is content.

Until, that is, she comes across a Cheshire Cat, a rare shape-shifter, who may be about to turn her life upside down.

In Wonderland, things are rarely what they seem.

Follow the White Rabbit – Release Day!

Published August 15, 2014 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Follow the White Rabbit 453x680

It’s release day!! I don’t think it will ever stop being the most exciting day for me. The fact that I can log onto Amazon and see my name there, and know that complete strangers around the world can read my words – it’s still slightly surreal to me!

So, Follow the White Rabbit is my Wonderland flirt, which releases into the big, bad world today. Fingers crossed my new baby makes some friends 🙂

Believing in Impossible Things

Published August 12, 2014 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Follow the White Rabbit 200x300Well, it’s busy here as usual and the countdown is on until Follow the White Rabbit is release this Friday! The festivals are on in Edinburgh, which, like anyone else who lives here, I both love and hate it. The atmosphere, the bustle, the huge variety of things to see and do everywhere, the creativity that just seems to be in the air. Sounds great, right? And it is, until you actually want to get anywhere or do anything  in a hurry 🙂 Still, it is only once a year and on the upside have seen some great shows already – not to mention got to see George R R Martin doing a talk last night at the International Book Festival.

He’s an author that I have a huge amount of respect for (read, may have fangirl squee-ed a bit at actually getting to meet him!) and several key points I took away from his talk were that success doesn’t come overnight – it may seem to but every author that you see appear to ‘come out of nowhere’ has actually been plugging away for years in the hopes of one day getting that ‘instant success’ everyone will talk about. The other point was that he was constantly told that what he was doing was ‘wrong’, that it was impossible or shouldn’t be done. He’s combined sci-fi and horror in his books, while his most famous ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ series is a combination of fantasy and historical fiction – taking inspiration from a lot of British history in order to add grit and realism to a fantasy world. Sometimes, we need to aim for the impossible and not listen to those who tell us it can’t be done.

6 thingsThat brings me back to one of my favourite ‘Alice in Wonderland’ quotes. What if the only reason we can’t believe in the impossible is because we just haven’t tried hard enough? Maybe we just need to practice harder, until we can think of six impossible things before breakfast 🙂

Follow the White Rabbit is now up on Goodreads here, so please add if you have an account!

Take care x

Off to Wonderland!

Published August 1, 2014 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

I know, I’ve been terrible at keeping up with this blog lately! How has everyone been? While I’ve rather slipped on the updates I promise I have still been busy working – and have lots of news for you. 🙂

FrontWonderland1650

Firstly, my publisher, Breathless Press are having their 5th birthday and we’re all celebrating by heading off to Wonderland! Inspired by Lewis Carroll and Alice’s Adventures there is a series of short stories being released, both individually as ebook ‘flirts’ and as an anthology available in both paperback and special limited edition hardback under the title ‘Wonderland Tales’. (Isn’t the cover pretty?) The anthology is actually out today (woot!) and is available from the Breathless Press website.

My contribution is called, Follow the White Rabbit, and is set in Wonderland but showing an alternative story and obviously with my own twist on it. 🙂 It will be released as a standalone flirt on the 15th August – so just 2 weeks away!
