Halloween Seduction – Blog Hop and Giveaway

Published October 25, 2013 by shellirosewarne

halloween seductionHi all,

Today I’m joining in the Halloween Seduction Blog Hop – organised by the lovely Valerie and Renea. The grand prize is a $100 Amazon gift card, so make sure you enter with the rafflecopter at the end.

The theme is Halloween Seduction – and us paranormal writers tend to have a soft spot for the dark and slightly spooky when it comes to romance. I’ve always loved Halloween – yes the costumes, the games and the parties, but more the mythologies and the history behind it. The idea that ghosts, spirits, fairies and all matter of other supernatural beings can slip through the cracks between their world and ours. It conjures up all kinds of images and ideas, doesn’t it? 🙂

In my new release Love Reawakened, it might not be Halloween but with a zombie, a necromancer, a witch and a bit of voodoo thrown in for good measure, then it’s certainly the right time of year for it! See this excerpt and see what you think:

Shocked gasps came from behind her, but the vibrations were already running through the ground. Quickly she smeared the blood around the edges of the circle. The energy was rising now; waves spreading out as she could feel the hairs on her arms standing up and tiny tremors through the soles of her shoes. She drew a final symbol in the blood on the gravestone itself, the rough stone grazing her fingers and making the lines awkward.

“Patrick Connell rise. Come from your grave at my command, rise from your sleep at my bidding.”

The earth in front of her practically bubbled now, and then it parted and a tall figure emerged. Neil almost shrieked behind her but her attention stayed focused on the corpse in front of her. He was newly dead and so perfectly preserved. In fact, gazing at him, you would barely know the difference if you saw him walking down the street. She was quite proud. She didn’t do this spell much, but this was a damn good raising!

“Patrick Connell, you have been raised at my command. You will do as I say and nothing more, bound to me by blood and magic. Do you understand and obey?”

The corpse looked at her, surprising clarity in his deep blue eyes. She didn’t think she’d ever raised one this ‘new’ before and it was actually a little disconcerting how alive he looked. He’d obviously been a handsome man, tall with broad shoulders, thick dark hair, strong jaw, and quite startling eyes. Then he opened his mouth and said a single word.

“No.”

When Emma shows up on Garret’s doorstep he knows she must be in trouble-after all nothing else would bring her to his door. Still, he never imagined a zombie gone rogue, or that the blazing attraction between them would be as strong as ever.

Wicked Warriors Halloween Blog Hop

Published October 23, 2013 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, it’s creeping towards Halloween and today I’m joining in on the ‘Wicked Warriors’ Halloween Blog hop. There’s a grand prize to win of a Kindle Paperwhite and lots of author goodies. It’s also into the last few days of my rafflecopter giveaway – so lots of chances to win!

wicked warriorsNow the theme is obviously ‘Wicked Warriors’ – which I guess means different things to all of us. There’s a lot of spectulation that romance readers want to read about ‘bad boys’ that are magically tamed by the heroine somehow. Is that a bit too much fantasy? To be fair, when I’m reading I like my heroes to have a bit of a back story – and sometimes it can be sweet to see the contrast between the side they show the rest of the world and the side the heroine can coax out of them (or should that sometimes be ‘drag out of them kicking and screaming’!) It’s for their own good 🙂

In my new release, ‘Love Reawakened’ our hero, Garret, is a necromancer – so literally involved in what you might call ‘wicked’, he’s been battered, bruised and probably scared away everyone who tried to get close to him – including our heroine previously. In fact, it’s only due to completely dire circumstances and having no where else to turn that makes Emma even consider setting eyes on him again. I’ll give you a sneak peak of the moment:

She sighed and perched on the edge of the now cleared sofa. He matched his house, she thought wryly. Masculine, rough round the edges and getting more battered by the day. He’d always looked tough, close-cropped hair, usually days’ old stubble, lean and muscular. He’d never make cover boy material but she’d liked that. Now, though, he looked wearied, dark circles under his eyes, and a set to his jaw that hadn’t been there before. He never did look after himself.
She pushed the thoughts aside. It was none of her business what he did anymore. Once she had thought it might be, but that had ended in her being completely humiliated and she was so not going there again. Besides, she had bigger priorities right now.

Yup, it has zombies too (the necromancer was a bit of a hint, right?). Perfect Halloween reading – but not quite scary enough to need to hide behind the couch for! The buy links are here:

Release Day – Love Reawakened

Published October 11, 2013 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

You’ll have to excuse me for being excited today – it’s release day for my zombie-themed romance Love Reawakened! (Squee!) I think release days have to be the best days for authors – after months of writing, rewriting, subbing, edits, cover art, promo work and all the other bits that go before, then your baby is finally being released into the big wide world. People can buy it, read it, *cough judge it* – yup it gets scary as well! This is now my second ‘stand alone’ novella, and three stories in anthologies, and I don’t think it will ever stop being just as exciting and just as scary 🙂
Anyway, enough of my gushing and on with the book lol!
Love Reawakened is my first zombie-themed paranormal romance. Those who know me may know just how surprising that is! I’ve never been someone who watches zombie films, or even horror films for that matter – I’m way too much of a wuss. If you’re the same way, then don’t worry about hard-core horror in this – I can read it myself and not have nightmares! At the end of the day I think it’s all about the characters and, of course, the romance 🙂

My Sexy Saturday – 5th October

Published October 5, 2013 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Woot – it’s finally weekend! It’s looking like a busy one here and since I have a new release due (squee!) it might not surprise you to see that this week’s ‘My Sexy Saturday’ is from that. My zombie-themed paranormal romance, ‘Love Reawakened’ is coming out through Breathless Press this Friday 11th so am starting to get rather excited now 🙂

Hope you enjoy this sneak peak.

“Listen, Emma, we need to talk.”
Oh Christ, that was break up talk, wasn’t it? She was shocked to feel tears pricking her eyes. What was wrong with her? They hadn’t even been dating or anything so they weren’t breaking up. He had helped her, and they’d had sex. She needed to stop building things up in her head.

“Hey, are you okay?” His voice was soft and suddenly she couldn’t hear it right now.
Instead she reached up, pulling his head down and locking their lips together. She put every bit of desperation, of hurt, of longing into that kiss. When he responded, groaning against her mouth and dragging her closer against him, she almost sagged in relief. She just needed something before she had to let go again.

If you’d like to check out more ‘My Sexy Saturday’ excerpts then you can visit the main site here

or to check the list of blogs participating here Click here

Also, if you haven’t done so already then please, please go vote for my entry in the Piatkus Entice Romance Writing Competition. In case you haven’t heard (ie, haven’t spoken to me in the last week, as it may possibly have been all I’ve talked about :)) I’m one of the three finalists and this round is all down to public vote. Piatkus Entice Writing Competition!

Published October 4, 2013 by shellirosewarne

Hi all,

Well, what a week it’s been! This time last Friday I was on the way home and just happened to check my phone to see that I’d missed a call – I didn’t recognise the number and it wasn’t local. ‘Oh, it’ll just have been a sales call’ went through my mind. If only I knew – as I got home to an email from Piatkus Entice saying that I had been chosen as one of the three finalists in their Romance Writing Competition being run with the Festival of Romance.

I must admit I entered the contest more as a punt then anything else. Since I first started writing, and quite frankly long before that, I knew that all my favourite authors in my genre were with Piatkus (think Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan and J.R. Ward to mention a few!!). It was part of what I jokingly like to call the ‘master plan’ but quite a way down the road yet! Still, when I saw the competition I couldn’t quite resist the lure of having something I’d written being at least read by them – and as I always try to think these days, if you don’t try then you never get! So, for them not only to like my writing but to be in the final three is just – wow! (As a writer you’d think I’d have better words, so sorry).

The next stage is down to public vote – and the other two entries are both fabulous so I’m not going to be too upset if this is as far as I get. (Actually, that’s a big fat lie, but I will understand and try to restrain my uncontrollable weeping to a corner while I put on a ‘oscar night’ graceful loser face, hehe). The link for voting is here:

http://www.piatkusentice.co.uk/competitions/writingcompvote/

Please, please do go and have a look and a read of my chapters and if you like them then please vote. Also, we’re trying to spread the word so please do share with everyone you know, random strangers in the street, your second cousins twice removed on your mothers side (you get the idea!). You have no idea how much this will mean to me – and if you’ve just voted (and if not, then why not?) then you’re all awesome and thank you so much! 🙂
